AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR MAY 27
Make the people hold each other’s hands and fill their hearts with truth. You made up your mind, so do as divined. Put on your armor, ragged after fights. Hold up your sword, you’re leaving the light. Make yourself ready, for the lords of the dark. They’ll watch your way, so be cautious, quiet and hark, but me? I’m gonna liveblog this here pro wrestling show, folks.
The show opens with a recap video for Double or Nothing.
The Inner Circle are at a loading dock hanging out with boxes of t-shirts they made proclaiming them as Stadium Stampede t-shirts. Jericho says they’re gonna have a pep rally and figure out what to do with the t-shirts, and Santana shows them that their buddy Carlos got them a sweet deal and they have a whole truck full of shirts to dispose of, which gets a facepalm out of Y2J.
Thence to the intro video.
Commentary then hypes up tonight’s show.
We get footage of the Elite hanging out earlier that segues into a Matt Hardy / Young Bucks promo about their match tonight. The Bucks ask if they can get a different version of Matt tonight and he says he’s way ahead of them and comes back out as Team Xtreme Matt, but he wants to go back even earlier and we get OG Hardy Boyz Matt!
Joey Janela & Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen) vs. “Broken” Matt Hardy & Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)
Matt and Marq to start, collar and elbow, side headlock, shot off, drop toehold and the Bucks take control of the match. Double jump plancha from a legal Nick, tag to Janela, he comes in with rights and lefts, off the ropes, dropped by a chop, tag to Hardy, triple team in the corner! Quick tags from the Elite, but Kassidy comes in with a fighting chance.
Drop down, leapfrog, Jackson catches himself in the ropes but eats a springboard Stunner over the top rope! Quen tags in, diving Frankensteiner to the floor! Joey off the ropes with a suicide dive to follow it up and a Death Valley Driver on the floor after! Back inside, cover for two, tag back to Isiah. Cobra Twist applied, standing switch, back elbow, whip reversed, Silly String denied.
Kicks from the apron, springboard moonsault comes up empty, Janela gets back body dropped into the crowd and ducks a superkick that nails the Blade! The Butcher gets involved, the Bucks get into a brawl when Matt saves his brother! Jockeying for position on the stage, Nick staying alive, Yoshi Tonic takes him back inside and he drops Kassidy with it but can’t capitalize!
Hardy in, catching himself on a springboard bulldog, inverted facelock... STEREO DDTS ON PRIVATE PARTY! SIDE EFFECT ON THE BAD BOY! Dragging them into position, up top... MATT MOONSAULTS ON ALL THREE MEN BUT CAN’T PUT THEM AWAY! Tag to Matt Jackson, chops and punches, throat thrust, off the ropes, Janela with a kick to the ribs to stop his momentum!
Nick with the save, Joey missile dropkicks both Bucks outta the ring but Hardy cuts the Asai moonsault off... SUPERKICK PARTY! PRIVATE PARTY STEREO TOPE CON GIROS! Marq Quen comes up lame, Isiah back inside, springboard reverse STO... NOPE! Setting Hardy up top, right hands, Matt Jackson comes from behind him with a superkick!
Fireman’s carry, Hardy with an elbow drop... MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK! IT’S OVER!
Matt Hardy & Young Bucks win by pinfall with More Bang For Your Buck on Isiah Kassidy.
Post-match, Matt Hardy checks on Marq Quen and he and Rick Knox help the Private Party man to the back.
AND THEN BUTCHER AND THE BLADE ATTACK THE YOUNG BUCKS! Blindsiding them, putting boots to them...
FTR ARE HERE! DAX HARWOOD AND CASH WHEELER ARE ON DYNAMITE! THEY HIT THE RING AND SIZE UP THE BUCKS... BUT ATTACK BUTCHER AND THE BLADE! DOUBLE ELBOWS ON WILLIAMS! SPIKE PILEDRIVER ON PARKS! Andy comes back to the ring... SUPERKICK PARTY INTO SHATTER MACHINE!
All four men on their feet, the Bucks and FTR square up, the Bucks go for handshakes but FTR walk off.
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, Jon Moxley makes his entrance, and joins the commentary desk.
Brian Cage vs. Lee Johnson
Cage jumping him at the bell, putting him into the corner for lariats and bieling him across the ring! Corner forearms into a release German suplex, Taz observing from the stage as Brian mims putting a cigarette out on Johnson’s back before powerbombing him! Buckle bomb follows, suplex lift...
Brian Cage wins by pinfall with Drill Claw.
Post-match, Taz gets on the mic and calls Moxley out. He says he respects what he’s done, grinding and grinding for his success, and at Fyter Fest, he’s dealing with something different. He’s dealing with a machine, and he wants Jon to bring his fight, his grit, and his heart, because big boy is gonna put his hand in his chest and tear his heart out!
That’s Brian Cage, the machine. Beat him if you can, survive if he lets you!
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, Dr. Britt Baker, DMD is wheeled out by Rebel for an interview with Tony Schiavone.
He reads a posterboard that says “The Rules of Being a Role Model” and Britt takes over, so maybe not so much an interview. Rule number three is “Don’t hurt the role model”, and she’ll be frank— last week the egregious tandem assault that left her with a broken tibia wasn’t an accident, it was a conspiracy.
Exhibit A is some pictures of the match that she says prove her case, and she’s close personal friends with top execs at TNT and without her there’s no women’s division. She asks Rebel to flip the card and it’s a picture of Kris Statlander. Britt declares her a conspirator, Hikaru Shida is next, she’s also a conspirator, next card, Nyla Rose.
She’s come off the top rope hundreds of time with precision and grace and she didn’t this time, so she’s also a conspirator. She brings out a corkboard that purports to show referee Aubrey Edwards is the heart of the conspiracy. Concussion? Broken leg? She was there. Broken nose? She was... somewhere. Britt puts them all on notice and says she’ll be back at All Out.
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, we get a house ad for AEW’s upcoming action figure line.
The Inner Circle are interviewed about their pep rally and Chris Jericho says they’re gonna get back on track after being robbed at—
He goes silent as Orange Cassidy wanders in and then out of frame. He asks if he really just did that and says he’ll see Orange later.
Christi Jaynes vs. Hikaru Shida
Circling, collar and elbow, Shida backs her into the ropes and breaks with a gentle slap to the collarbone at referee Bryce Remsburg’s command. Jaynes gets the crowd behind her before going for a cheap shot to the leg and unleashing Hikaru’s fury! Whip reversed, catch the champ’s strike, overhand chop into a knucklelock and an Arabian press lucha arm drag!
Posing for the crowd, spanking herself, drawing Shida back up but Hikaru grabs a handful of hair! Christi returns the favor, Shida regains control and smashes her into the corner! Charging knee in the corner, out to the floor, dragging her into position on the apron... KNEE TREMBLER! Back inside, scoop for a backbreaker, turning Jaynes around for a one-arm Camel Clutch!
Nowhere to go, Christi reaching, crying out, Shida drops her to the mat and draws her up for a vertical suplex! Only two, up top, Jaynes cuts her off with an enzuigiri and goes up for a diving sunset flip into a roll-through enzuigiri for two. Off the ropes, quebrada comes up empty, Shida lines her up, sliding forearm, off the ropes... SLIDING KNEE TO THE BACK OF THE HEAD GETS TWO!
Drawing her up...
Hikaru Shida wins by pinfall with the Falcon Arrow.
The new champ celebrates her win and we go to break.
Back from commercial, we get a recap of the TNT Championship tournament finals from Double or Nothing.
TNT Champion Cody Rhodes makes his entrance and Tony Schiavone interviews him in the ring.
Cody makes some kind of sports analogy for himself that mostly passes me by except for the part where he says he’s not welcomed back in Connecticut. He says Tony Khan, naturally, wants to recruit the best wrestlers in the world, so he wasn’t in the first, second, or even third call, he... [holds up Four Horsemen fingers]
But if there’s event a tinge of resent to that in him it’s extinguished by holding this title. If you think his story is one of nepotism, think again— he was a 21-year-old kid called up when he could barely hit the ropes or take a bump. He didn’t get the dominant genes, Dustin got all the Dusty and he’s not the Simba in this tale.
Back home he’s got a mean ol’ Cuban lady, his mother, Michelle, with a broken ankle, and she taught him everything he knows about grit and work and you can have all the talent in the world and he’ll shove it up your ass before he outworks you. If you’re critical of him bell-to-bell, he asks you just him by what he does next.
He’s gonna turn a pace, work a schedule, and he’ll wrestle for the title every week in an open challenge. For those watching at home, we’re still in the pandemic era, but we give them two hours of our time every week. We bought the PPV en masse and blew projections away, and he has an obligation to give us his best, and this is where the fun begins.
And so we go to break.
Jimmy Havoc & Kip Sabian vs. SCU (Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky)
Havoc and Sabian attacking before the bell, dumping Sky and working Kazarian over, but he cuts them off on a double whip, Scorpio pulls Jimmy out and we get a bell! SCU in charge on Kip, quick tags, but a counter jawbreaker leads to a tag. Havoc in, Frankie targeting his arm, tag to Sky for a double axehandle.
SCU work him over at length, finally the Brits get the advantage. Double-team eyepoke gets two, Kaz blinded, Havoc fishhooks him, overhead elbow, and a tag to Sabian. Kazarian is still down and out and getting quick tagged on when we go to break.
Back from commercial, Sabian with a side headlock, still in control and working Kazarian over, taking him down for repeated stomps when he threatens to get out. Tag to Havoc, snapmare stomp to the face, tag back to Kip. Kaz gets away, tag made! Sky in hot with lariats, clearing the ring, overhead belly-to-belly on Sabian!
High dropkick sends Havoc rolling, charging knee for Kip sets up a springboard Ace Crusher and then the Dragon sleeper! Jimmy breaks it up, tags in, boot in the corner but Havoc hits a Death Valley Driver! Tag back to Sabian, diving double stomp... NOPE! The match breaks down, Kazarian tags in, big assisted tornado DDT gets two!
Slingshot Ace Crusher, Sabian breaks it up with a senton! Tag to Scorpio, thinking SCU Later but Penelope Ford grabs Frankie’s leg! Jimmy lifts him up...
Jimmy Havoc & Kip Sabian win by pinfall with a dropkick-assisted Snow Plow on Scorpio Sky.
Commentary informs us that this has earned the Englishmen a tag title match on next week’s Dynamite.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman gets a promo where he talks about how he’s clearly the breakout star of AEW and he’s been undefeated for over a year, so it’s perplexing that he’s yet to receive a title shot and he’s starting to think someone in the office doesn’t like him very much. So when he heard there’d be a battle royal for the #1 contendership to the TNT Championship, he figured that was his opportunity.
He’ll be in the match with Wardlow and when it comes down to the final two, he’ll know what to do. Wardlow objects but MJF gets in his face. He backs down and waves it off as just playing, but when he leaves, Wardlow continues to steam.
MJF makes his entrance for the battle royal and we go to break.
AEW TNT Championship #1 Contender’s Battle Royal
Chaos to start, Santana and Ortiz blindside Orange Cassidy on the stage and beat him down. Luther nails Marko Stunt with a knee, Luchasaurus comes from behind him and they brawl a little. Chokeslam to Stunt, dinosaur hits the Tail Whip and chokeslams Luther to elimination! Sonny kiss turning up the athleticism but Wardlow dumps him out of the ring after!
MJF putting boots to Kiss on the floor, having rolled out of the ring and still in the match. Jungle Boy choking Peter Avalon out, Friedman getting into it with Colt Cabana, trading forearms. Colt ducks a lariat from Billy Gunn and hits the Flip, Flop, & Fly! Max blocks it, turns him around, Flying Asshole on Gunn but he hosses Cabana up and eliminates him!
A Dark Order rep gives Colt a flyer, Stunt lights Billy up with palm strikes, and we go to break.
Back from commercial, the crowd has thinned a bit and Wardlow takes the straps down! Stunt hits a dropkick on him, ducks a charge to the apron, enzuigiri and Christopher Daniels hits Wardlow with a forearm! Marko with a diving Frankensteiner on the Fallen Angel, caught, but he counters and eliminates Daniels!
Wardlow hosses Stunt up and military press drops him to the floor, eliminating him! Final five, MJF, Wardlow, Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy, and Billy Gunn. Mr. Mayhem brawling with the dinosaur but Max chop blocks him! Gunn breaking it up, whip reversed, Billy goes into Luchasaurus and they end up forehead to forehead!
Off the ropes, shoulder block, shrugged off, Wardlow between them and they knock him down! Big men trading punches, goozles, both on the ropes and MJF and Wardlow eliminate them together! Working Perry over, but Orange Cassidy is back! Wardlow holds him in place, Max puts the ring on but Orange ducks the punch and Mr. Mayhem takes the brunt of it!
Perry eliminates Friedman with a back body drop and then works together with Cassidy to eliminate Wardlow! Referees pull Max off the apron, Orange off the ropes, jockeying for position, Jack to the apron. Slingshot back in, Orange nearly eliminated but he skins the cat into a tijeras! Off the ropes, Superman Punch, duck the lariat, hit another!
Freshly Squeezed puts him into the ropes but Jungle Boy comes off the ropes with a lariat...
“Jungle Boy” Jack Perry wins, last eliminating Orange Cassidy with a Frankensteiner to the floor, to become #1 contender to the AEW TNT Championship.
We get a recap of Stadium Stampede to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Vickie Guerrero is dressed as a cheerleader to introduce the Inner Circle pep rally.
The Inner Circle make their entrances one by one and get in the ring, which has a table with various things on and around it.
Chris Jericho welcomes us to the pep rally and admits it’s been a rough time for the Inner Circle but they’re gonna band together and rise again like five sexy phoenixes. This rally isn’t for them, it’s for everyone, which is why everybody in the crowd is getting official Stadium Stampede merche! Chris throws t-shirts into the crowd, and some of them throw them back, which upsets Y2J.
Sammy Guevara plays the voice of reason and says they didn’t win, but you know what they did do? They participated, so he got them all some trophies. Jericho complains his says “King of Dad Jokes”, but Sammy explains that it’s a pandemic and sourcing trophies wasn’t easy. Santana has gifts for everybody, up to and including a pair of boots for Jake Hager and an 8x10 of Marc Antony for Jericho.
Chris says Sammy got hurt but he’s too cool for nerdy crutches, and that’s why he got him a scooter. Guevara takes a few scoots and Jericho addresses Ortiz, who’s been hard of hearing since he got his bell rung, and he gets a pair of earmuffs that bring his hearing back online. Hager says his grandma said the best gift was a handmade poem, so he wrote one!
It’s an ode to the Inner Circle and how they’re the best-la, and he can’t wait to run dudes over with his Tesla before going off the rails on a Taken riff. Sammy asks Chris what he really wants, and Jericho says what he really wants is Mike Tyson’s head on a platter. Shut your ass, you heard him! He hasn’t forgotten what Tyson did to him on January 11, 2010, on a Monday night.
He turned traitor on him and every single day since, Jericho has been dreaming of getting his hands on Mike Tyson’s fat head. Sammy says he couldn’t get his head on a platter, but maybe he can get him something better... A CHEESE PLATTER AND A LITTLE BIT OF THE BUBBLY! It’s all drank up and eaten and Y2J loses his mind while Sammy says it wasn’t like that.
Here comes Mike Tyson and his entourage, drinking the bubbly on their way to the ring. Iron Mike gets in the ring and he and his boys, including Henry Cejudo and Vitor Belfort, square up to the Inner Circle. Jericho tells him to calm down and he’s gonna say it one time— shut your mouth when he’s talking to you. He’s been dreaming of this moment for ten years.
Tyson turned on him and knocked him out, and Mike grabs the mic to explain he’s a sucker that deserved it. Chris gives him one chance and one chance only to apologize for knocking him out. Tyson tears his shirt off awkwardly and flexes in Jericho’s face! Y2J gives him one last chance but Mike shoves him and we got a brawl!
Referees swarm the ring and the locker room empties! ALL OUT CHAOS! Cody Rhodes is holding Iron Mike back! MIKE TYSON OVERWHELMS THE MASSES AND ADVANCES MOST OF THE WAY BACK TO THE RING BEFORE FINALLY GETTING FORCED UP THE ENTRYWAY!
Jericho screams at Tyson that he’s gonna get him and calls him a little bitch!
That’s the show, folks.
