Hikaru Shida wins the AEW Women’s title at Double or Nothing

Nyla Rose brought her AEW Women’s championship AND Hikaru Shida’s kendo stick with her No Disqualification, No Count-out title defense at Double or Nothing on Sat., May 23. A no-nonsense Shida was already waiting for the Native Beast in the ring at Jacksonville’s Daily’s Place, and took the action right to Rose at the bell.

The stipulations were taken advantage of early and often. Shida being sent crashing through a ringside poker table was a particular highlight as the champ targeted her opponent’s back, looking to soften her up for the Beast Bomb.

But Hikaru’s plan was to knock Rose senseless, and that worked, too.

It wasn’t enough to put Nyla away, though. Shida didn’t stay down after Nyla came back with her signature leaping knee strike off the top turnbuckle, either.

The pair traded kendo shots and big shots - the champ kicked out of an avalanche falcon arrow in a particularly thrilling nearfall.

Shida needed a few more running knee strikes, but in the end, AEW crowned the third Women’s champ in company history.
