AEW Rankings (May 20, 2020): New #1 tag team

AEW released their latest rankings (May 20, 2020). Let’s check out the movers and shakers.

Men:

AEW

On the strength of a win over Christopher Daniels, Mr. Brodie Lee popped up one spot to #3. That’s the only change this week.

The rankings should get a shake-up after Double or Nothing on May 23. Jon Moxley defends the AEW World Championship against #3 Mr. Brodie and the TNT Championship tournament final pits #1 Cody Rhodes versus #2 Lance Archer.

Women:

AEW

No changes this week after Hikaru Shida cemented her #1 status by winning a four-way with Kris Statlander, Dr. Britt Baker DMD, and Penelope Ford.

I’d like to think there will be a big shake-up in the women’s rankings after Double or Nothing, but that’s probably not likely due to the short staff on hand. Nyla Rose will defend the Women’s Championship against Shida, and #3 Dr. Baker looks to remove alien teeth against #2 Statlander. No matter the outcomes of those matches, I don’t see any of the four dropping below spot 3. There really isn’t anyone with a strong recent resume to replace them. Yuka Sakazaki and Riho have been out of action since before the coronavirus pandemic made travel difficult. I can’t even think who would be #6 off the top of my head.

Tag Team:

AEW

Wow! A new number 1 has emerged in the tag team rankings. The Best Friends’ hard work has finally paid off. They jumped over the inactive Dark Order duo of Evil Uno & Stu Grayson. Private Party boogied up from #5 to #3. Dark Order, Young Bucks, and Jurassic Express all dropped one spot from the previous week.

The Best Friends won’t have a chance to rest on their laurels. They have a match against Private Party on the Double or Nothing pre-show. The winner will earn a title shot at Hangman Page & Kenny Omega. Nothing against Private Party, but I’m strongly rooting for a Best Friends victory. It feels like now or never for Trent and Chuck Taylor to get a chance at gold. I’d like to see them rise to the occasion.

Do you agree with AEW’s rankings this week? If not, what would you change?
