Let’s catch up on this week’s news in MLW and preview Saturday night’s episode of Fusion.
AAA Trios Championship defense
MLW has a strong 4-2 lead heading into week 4 of the MLW vs AAA Super Series from Tijuana, Mexico. The feature bout for Fusion will be a AAA Trios title defense. Los Jinetes del Aire (Hijo del Vikingo, Octagon Jr., Myzteziz Jr.) will put their gold on the line against Injustice (Myron Reed, Kotto Brazil, Jordan Oliver). This trios match was put together by Konnan after Injustice kept mouthing off about luchadores. If you’ve never seen any of the Jinetes, don’t doubt them. They are jam up guys and high-flyers of the highest magnitude. Seriously though, you are in for a treat.
The Trios title bout isn’t the only thing on Injustice’s plate. Apparently, they also attacked Brian Pillman Jr. Again. Injustice even had the audacity to go for Pillman’s sacred mullet.
At this point, it is becoming a comical gag, like Kenny getting killed in South Park. I’m waiting for Davey Boy Smith Jr. to find Pillman’s body and exclaim, “Oh my god, they killed Brian.”
The other match on Fusion will be Poder del Norte against Black Destiny, Fantastick, and Rayo Star. I’m pumped to see Poder del Norte get worldwide exposure. I think they are one of the top two trios teams in the world, the other being Nueva Generación Dinamita in CMLL. Poder del Norte are physical with a variety of teamwork attacks. I hope they put on a show for all to enjoy.
The preview also teases an update on Davey Boy possibly signing for a title fight with Heavyweight Champion Jacob Fatu, a Caribbean shopping spree with Richard Holliday, and another edition of LA Park’s cooking show.
MLW Fusion airs on beIN SPORTS and PlayStation Vue Saturday nights at 9 pm ET / 6 pm PT. New episodes are posted on YouTube Saturdays at 6:05 pm ET. Fusion is also broadcast in the UK, Ireland, Israel, Africa, and France.
MLW announced a new Anthology show premiering May 16. “MLW Anthology will spotlight the biggest rivalries, iconic athletes and championship classics spanning the history of MLW dating back to 2002.” Talent during the the 2002-04 period included Terry Funk, CM Punk, Dusty Rhodes, “Dr. Death” Steve Williams, Gary Hart, and many more.
MLW is also arriving on the iNDEMAND pay-per-view scene for May. The schedule includes:
- May 7th: MLW Battle Riot II
- May 14th: MLW Saturday Night Super Fight
- May 21st: MLW Opera Cup 2019
I assume that means the full events as they were taped (as opposed to the edited Fusion versions), but I’m not sure.
MLW will be streaming AAA’s Lucha Fighter tournament on the MLW Facebook page Saturday night at 9 pm ET. Lucha Fighter is in week 3 of the four week schedule. Catch up with coverage of week 1 and week 2. The men’s field is stacked with big names still in contention: Chessman, LA Park, Pagano, Pentagon, Hijo del Vikingo, Dr. Wagner Jr., Texano, and Psycho Clown.
Here’s a fantastic photo of Mance Warner from his match in Tijuana.
If you aren’t satisfied with the US presidential nominees for 2020, MLW has a suggestion for you.
Lariats and light beers is a winning platform in my book. And yes, that is a real shirt for sale in the MLW shop.
Los Parks also have new threads.

Speaking of LA Park, let’s check in with his former manager, Salina de la Renta.

“Hi! I’m calling because last week I got a bowl of ricotta cheese for breakfast and while I know that ricotta cheese is good for you, I can’t seem to enjoy this meal”
Manager: “Salina, those are egg whites”
The merchandising department did not forget about Heavyweight Champion Jacob Fatu. His new shirt has style.

One of the big money matches for Fatu is against National Openweight Champ Alexander Hammerstone. When asked if Hammer could hit the Nightmare Pendulum on Fatu, the answer was a confident affirmative.
Without question https://t.co/as3G9OsoYP— Hammerstone (insert blue checkmark) (@alexhammerstone) May 1, 2020
The idea of Hammerman slamming Fatu down titillates my arm hairs. I’ll be sure to be properly tanned in honor of that clash.
Davey Boy Smith Jr. is another top contender for Fatu’s strap. Smith is back in the lab working on his game. This week he added cartwheels to his skillset.
Been inspired to do more cartwheels by watching lots of Bam Bam Bigelow matches. ♀️ ♂️ I loved his different entrance themes too, especially his first WWF one Was amazing he could do one for a man his size. Ideas are flowing for counters as my 3rd eye awakens ♂️ pic.twitter.com/NDSa5Q1x4m— Davey Boy Smith Jr. (@DBSmithjr) April 30, 2020
I can’t wait to see what Smith pulls out in his first match back from the coronavirus quarantine.
We’ll close with one of the best in the biz in the promo game, Josef Samael. This particular clip is not from MLW. I think you’ll enjoy it anyway.
Will you be voting for Mance Warner in 2020? Who do you want to be next in line to challenge Jacob Fatu?
