Rumor Roundup (May 11, 2020): Otis, Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak, SmackDown hacker, more!

WWE Network

Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that — rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.

Rumors for the Day:

  • No surprise after last night, but Dave Meltzer wrote in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that “a lot, perhaps most of the Otis stuff is from Vince McMahon who likes the character.”
  • Michelle McCool told The New York Post there were discussions about Edge ending Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania 24, but Edge argued against it.
  • WWE didn’t have any plans for who the SmackDown hacker would be when the storyline started, according to Sportskeeda’s Tom Colohue.
  • Colohue also says WWE’s original plan for Nia Jax’s return would have seen her win the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal.
  • Based on a survey recently sent out, WWE is again gauging fan interest in how to make empty arena shows more appealing. Fan & celebrity reactions via video, wrestlers in the stands, and more cinematic elements were among the concepts listed.

If you have heard of any interesting rumors that you’d like to add, feel free to post them in the comments section below. Just remember they are rumors and not confirmed as fact, so please take them as such. And check our weekly Rumor Look Back here to keep track of how often rumors turn out to be correct.
