In San Antonio, the local Fox affiliate is reporting that Jose A. Rodriguez Chucuan has been arrested on sexual assault charges. The article on their website doesn’t make the connection, but that’s the legal name of former WWE champion Alberto Del Rio. Since his WWE release in 2014, he’s been working in wrestling and mixed martial arts under the name Alberto El Patron.
According to Fox San Antonio, on May 4 a woman told police Rodriguez had assaulted her the previous evening. That included being physically abusive and slapping her “across the head” twice, and threatening to “take her son and drop him in the middle of the road somewhere” when she cried after declining to change clothes and dance for him. The police affidavit also says the woman said she was sexually assaulted, and had her injuries photographed.
PWInsider reports that arrest records indicate Rodriguez was taken into custody yesterday (Sat., May 9) at 11 a.m. Central Daylight Time. He was released on a $5,000 bond (for $50,000 bail) at 5:29 p.m. CDT. The website has reached out to Rodriguez’s representatives but not received a statement as of this writing.
Prior to and after his release from the company, Rodriguez was in a relationship with WWE’s Paige that involved at least two instances which led to police involvement. Neither was charged in either incident.
UPDATE: Fox San Antonio has updated their report, including spelling out that the man arrested is Del Rio/El Patron. They also provide new details about the woman’s report of the crime, included allegations that Rodriguez tied her hands with boxing straps, “put a sock in her mouth and sexually assaulted her for several hours, using various objects.” She told detectives “she does not remember much after he placed his hand around her throat.” Investigators say her visible injuries came from Rodriguez punching her in the back during the assault.
