WWE Championship Match
Drew McIntyre (C) versus Seth Rollins
The Scottish Psychopath takes on his first big championship challenger (no The Big Show doesn’t count) facing the Monday Night Messiah at Money in the Bank.
The Road to Money in the Bank
After his WrestleMania 36 win McIntyre set out to be the least like Brock Lesnar that he could, i.e. he actually wanted to wrestle! Reigniting their famed NXT feud, Zelina Vega convinced McIntyre (with a little encouragement from her stable) to face Andrade on Monday Night Raw. McIntyre won, despite Vega’s best efforts to interfere, but his celebration was cut short when Seth Rollins attacked him and stomped him into the mat.
McIntyre, not one to cower from a challenge, responded to Rollins’ attack with equal ferocity delivering his fair share of claymore kicks to both Rollins and his disciples complete with a championship challenge at Money in the Bank. Rollins accepted the challenge from his throne room and the contract signing was set.
Unfortunately, for Rollins the contract signing didn’t go exactly as planned...
He may have signed the contract, but McIntyre seems to always have an answer for the Architect’s plans. As Samoa Joe so aptly put it, “There’s a fine line between disciple and martyr!”
What’s at stake?
This is McIntyre’s moment to shine as WWE champion. He’s had a bit of a rough go - having his big moment irrevocably changed by the circumstances of the world - and he hasn’t had much of an opportunity to show the WWE Universe what a Drew McIntyre championship reign looks like. Defeating Seth Rollins, the once golden boy of Monday Night Raw, will help to solidify his championship reign and to prevent Rollins from reshaping Raw into his warped vision.
Seth Rollins on the other hand needs this win. After his failed attempt to persuade the Raw roster to fall in line and his embarrassing loss against Kevin Owens at WrestleMania Rollins is all bark and no bite. Winning the WWE Championship would make him the default leader of the flagship show and would allow him to turn his vision for Raw into reality.
Who will prevail? The cult or the claymore?
Seth Rollins challenges Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship tonight at Money in the Bank, starting at 7 ET on WWE Network. And keep it here at CagesideSeats.com for all your Money in the Bank coverage.
