AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR APRIL 8

From the dawn of time we came to find the place of promise, moving silently down through war disabled centuries. Living many secret lives unrecognised by human eyes, struggling to reach the aim to dwell in perpetuality, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this pro wrestling show, folks.

The show opens with a promo from Jake “the Snake” Roberts.

He opens up with “my history will not be my destiny” before spinning scenarios of hopping in front of a moving train or jumping out of a plane without a parachute... or stand across the ring from Lance Archer without a prayer of winning. All three things lead to the same result— you are done. You saw what happened to poor Marko Stunt. Nobody else wanted it, and he took an opportunity to prove that he was willing and a man.

Well sometimes it’s better to be thought a fool than speak up and remove all doubt, and Marko is an idiot. Cody Rhodes might just get beaten by Shawn Spears, and that’d surprise everybody but Jake, who suggests that he might lose intentionally to avoid Lance Archer and asks Cody to squeak up.

Chris Jericho and Tony Schiavone are your commentary team tonight.

Alan Angels vs. Lance Archer

Archer just destroying Angels, clubbing him down and tearing him up. Disdainful slaps, off the ropes, Alan ducks a boot and fires off leg kicks. Slaps, enzuigiri, off the ropes but Lance catches him with the goozle and hits a goozle suplex! Pressing the attack, hoisting him up...

Lance Archer wins by pinfall with Blackout.

Dr. Britt Baker, DMD vs. Hikaru Shida

Baker ducks the collar and elbow, keeping her distance, probing kicks and then running away. Shida with a wristlock, right hands, Britt turns her around with a front chancery and a stomp to the back. Hair pulling in the lockup, referee Paul Turner warns a frustrated Hikaru off and Baker capitalizes, nailing her with a corner boot and covering her for two.

Action to the floor, Britt putting Shida into the barricade but she gets a kick and puts her over the barricade. Some local wrestlers serving as the crowd hold her down and Hikaru hits a running knee to send us to break.

Back from commercial, Shida with a vertical suplex for two! Running knee ducked, schoolboy from Baker but Hikaru reverses to a triangle choke! Britt gets the ropes, gasping and choking before Shida draws her up. Whip blocked, duck a lariat, Sling Blade from the doctor! Butterfly suplex gets two, following it up with kicks to the head, Russian legsweep, looking for Lockjaw but Hikaru gets the ropes!

Trading forearms and then kicks, leaving both women down and out, victory roll, Baker rolls through into Lockjaw but her nose is pouring blood and she can’t complete the hold! Putting the glove on, Shida gets free and nails her with a kick to the bloodied nose! Britt with superkicks in return, a nearfall, smiling through the blood! Putting Hikaru’s mouth over the bottom rope but she back body drops her out to block the stomp!

Trading shots over the ropes, Baker with a rake of the eyes and a kick to the shin to knock her away from the corner. Up top, Shida climbs to meet her, fireman’s carry... BACKBREAKER INTO THE TOP TURNBUCKLE! Off the ropes...

Hikaru Shida wins by pinfall with a sliding knee.

We get a backstage segment with Kenny Omega and Michael Nakazawa. Kenny talks about being nostalgic for their team and how they need a name. Nakazawa suggests Best Friends, but Omega points out AEW already have one of those. Michael says as an EVP he can make that happen, to which Kenny says he’ll think about it.

Enter Orange Cassidy. He opens a door and Best Friends come through. They jaw at them, accusing them of wanting to take their name and livelihood and they put the tag name on the line! They leave and Omega says he’s getting too old for this shit.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, we get an ad for the Young Bucks’ book.

The AEW rankings report follows, featuring the Dark Order at #1 for the tag team division, Hikaru Shida at #1 for the women, and Jake Hager at #1 for the men.

A video package for Hager’s title match against Jon Moxley next week follows to send us to break.

Back from commercial, we get a video package wherein Cody Rhodes and Shawn Spears trade promos about how important winning the TNT Championship tournament would be to them.

Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent?) (c) vs. Kenny Omega & Michael Nakazawa (Rights to the Name “Best Friends”)

Taylor and Omega to start, collar and elbow, into the ropes, breaking at the behest of referee Aubrey Edwards. Arm wringer, side headlock, shot off, shoulder block. Drop down, leapfrog, arm drag, another one and Chuck locks an armbar in after. Tag to Trent, he comes in with a diving double axehandle but Omega gets away and takes Nakazawa in.

Collar and elbow, Michael breaks dirty with a chop and Beretta returns fire! Nakazawa oils his chest up and Trent chops him again but his hand slips right off! Drawing him up, scoop and a slam, Omega and Nakazawa put boots to Beretta! Kenny pressing the attack, Nakazawa grabs both his legs and starts running, grinding his gentleman’s area into the post as we go to break!

Back from commercial, Omega with a front chancery, Nakazawa clubbing Trent, back suplex crotches him over the top rope and he greases the ropes with his oil... GRINDING HIS JESUS ZIPPER RIGHT DOWN THE TOP ROPE! Tag to Kenny, overhead elbows and sledges, reverse chinlock applied. Beretta gets out, hard lariat, tag to Taylor! Michael in as well, Chuck a house afire, fighting mad!

Drawing Nakazawa up, forearms, Omega gets a kick off to stagger him. Whip across, up and over, a drop toehold puts Michael’s face into Kenny’s crotch! A lariat sends Nakazawa to the floor, stereo planchas! Orange Cassidy in the ring, thumbs up, thinking about the big hug but the other best friends yank Best Friends out of the ring! They slide in, they want the hug but Cassidy sidesteps!

Best Friends back in, taking the interlopers out but Nakazawa squirts oil in their faces! He tries the same on Orange but his sunglasses block it! Michael takes the aviators away but Cassidy has another and dives on Omega! Beretta with a tornado DDT for two, off the ropes, Nakazawa with a spear to cut him off! Omega in, Finlay Roll into the lungblower, Dragon suplex blocked by Chuck but he gets it on Trent!

Beretta with a boot, tossing him over, powerbomb from Taylor but Nakazawa breaks it up! Kenny with a buckle bomb for Trent, Michael with an avalanche fallaway slam on Chuck, Omega tags out. Electric chair... DOOMSDAY DEVICE POUNCE BUT TAYLOR BREAKS IT UP! Nakazawa has some kind of stinky thong he’s using as a glove and clawslams Beretta but Taylor makes the save!

Malfunction at the junction, Kenny eats it, Best Friends are on the ball with the Sole Food combo but Omega breaks it up! Trent with a piledriver while Chuck holds Omega back... NOT ENOUGH! Looking for Strong Zero...

Best Friends win by pinfall with Strong Zero on Michael Nakazawa, retaining the rights to the Best Friends name.

We get another Dark Order video package highlighting Mr. Brodie’s, ah... eccentricities. He surveys some goons outside a building, asking them if they understand that perception is reality, and if so, why are two of them in tracksuits and the other guy in shirt and tie? He berates the tracksuit guys and tells them they’re getting off the highway before power and success.

He takes them in the building and we go to break.

Back from commercial we get a video package about AEW’s efforts to help KultureCity and their campaign for autism inclusivity.

Dr. Britt Baker, DMD is interviewed with her bloody nose.

She talks about how dirty Shida is and what a role model she is, working through all this.

Another Jake Hager video package follows and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Matt Hardy has a reply to the hole of the ass, Chris Jericho.

Sammy Guevara can’t even speak Spanish, he can’t wait to eat Santana and Ortiz because he loves Puerto Rican food, Jake Hager’s been brainwashed into a Jakenstein who just needs the bolts in his neck. He will not and cannot let the circle that is internal take over AEW, and to try and recruit Vanguard 1 with a t-shirt? He asks the drone to bring the t-shirt, but he brings Matt’s new shirt to him.

Vanguard calls the Inner Circle shirt a dumpster fire and low and behold, it’s on fire. In fact, the Inner Circle will be a dumpster fire and they’ll be deleted. He invites the hole of the ass to the Hardy Compound to face him in the Elite Deletion!

Brodie Lee vs. Lee Johnson

Brodie sidesteps a dropkick and decks Johnson with a back elbow! Big boot, slingshot senton atomico back inside, forearms in the corner, half nelson suplex absolutely destroys the kid! Brodie with the Truck Stop, drawing him up...

Brodie Lee wins by pinfall with the discus lariat.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, we get a video package for Cody Rhodes vs. Shawn Spears.

Cody Rhodes vs. Shawn Spears (AEW TNT Championship Tournament Quarterfinal Match)

Collar and elbow, fighting around the ring, Spears bails to the apron and takes a breather. Rhodes looking to pick the leg but Shawn gets a waistlock, Cody hosses out of it but eats a knee to the midsection for good measure. Putting him into the corner, across the ring, susnet flip sets up a leg pick but Spears runs away again! Back inside, Cody gets the Cody Cutter, only two!

Gourdbuster from the grandson of a plumber, another two count, Rhodes stomps the hand before drawing him up for an arm wringer, small package, only two. Waistlock, Cody with a back heel trip but Spears gets a schoolboy. Rhodes with forearms, backing him into the corner, whip reversed, up and over, pump kick gets the American Nightmare another two.

Nobody home on the moonsault, Shawn snaps off a piledriver but is slow to capitalize! Cover gets two, action to the floor, Spears pressing the attack and getting a neckbreaker on the floor as we go to break.

Back from commercial, Spears laying strikes in but Rhodes fills with determination and rolls to the floor to try and regain his wits. Shawn picks up a barricade and leans it against the apron but Cody recovers and smashes him head-first into the apron! Considering his environment, Rhodes going for a gourdbuster but Spears suplexes him into the barricade!

Back inside, cover for two, scoop and a slam, springboard comes up empty and Cody hits a knee! Up and over, snap scoop powerslam... NOPE! The weight belt comes off, Cody whips him with it and throws it to Billy Gunn in the crowd! Beautiful Disaster ducked, powerbomb connects and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Spears gets out a table but Rhodes cuts him off with a dive! Giving chase, chops over the barricade while Suge D holds Shawn down! Back inside, up top, Spears cuts him off with a butterfly superplex! Shawn removing the turnbuckle cover, Brandi Rhodes gets on the apron to yell at him, Cody from behind, inverted facelock countered to a snapmare!

Nearly knocking Brandi off the apron, Cody stops short, Spears with a fireman’s carry, Rhodes tries to block but he drops him over the ropes and through the table! Shawn happy to take the countout as referee Aubrey Edwards counts but Cody makes it back in at nine! Spears slow to capitalize, trading slaps, fireman’s carry, Rhodes reverses, Cross Rhodes, he hangs on and stands back up... NOT ENOUGH?!

Cody picks the leg, spinning toehold, he falls back into the figure four leglock in the middle of the ring! Spears struggling, his shoulders are down...

Cody Rhodes wins by pinfall with the figure four leglock.

We get replays of the match.

That’s the show, folks.
