Velveteen Dream gets a title shot next week

@WWE

Story wise, this has been in the works for awhile. Velveteen Dream has been targeting NXT Champion Adam Cole when we still had fans in the crowd. It was possibly going to be the TakeOver: Tampa title match.

So their scheduled title match next week makes perfect sense in that regard.

However, recent news adds another layer to this. Dream was accused of inappropriate behavior, behavior which he categorically denied, just last week. No more news came out after his denial so it was always going to be interesting to see how NXT used him going forward the next couple weeks.

Clearly, they don’t think this is something bad enough that it puts an abrupt halt to the story. That being said, we don’t know if they opted to run the match quicker than planned to get Dream out of the title picture as the investigation into last week’s online controversy takes place (of course, if he wins the match, which would have been taped today, that obviously answers that). They can even run an injury angle during the match to remove him from TV if they see fit.

Next week will shed more light on the subject. If he walks out champion, they feel confident in his denial. If he loses or is written off, that will raise more questions.

As of now, it’s Dream and Cole next week. We’ll see what happens next.
