Lucha Libre Roundup: Sin Cara’s return match in Mexico, Wagner family glory, more!

Welcome to the Lucha Libre Roundup. The former Sin Cara made his return to action in Mexico, gold and glory was achieved in the Wagner family, and enjoy behind the scenes footage of Angelico’s big dive from Lucha Underground.

We’ll start with a reminder that tonight is week 2 of AAA’s Lucha Fighter tournament. Week 1 was highlighted by the return of Dr. Wagner Jr. The show will be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube at 9 pm ET. Lady Shani vs Faby Apache will be one of the feature bouts. Lady Maravilla vs Keyra is another bout recently announced for the show.

Last Sunday in Ciudad Juárez, Pagano helped put on an empty arena lucha libre show. The big hook was Sin Cara’s return to action. This was Sin Cara’s first match in Mexico since being released by WWE. Sin Cara announced once again that his name will now be Cinta de Oro.

Pagano and Cinta de Oro teamed together to wrestle Aéreo & Hijo Del Impostor. Watch the full show here. The main event introductions begin at the 38:30 mark.

The bout was one fall and went close to 20 minutes. Pagano and Cinta de Oro displayed some solid teamwork. Enough so that I would like to see them become a tag team in AAA. The rudos shined with flashier moves. In the end, the fan favorites were victorious in their hometown. Pagano got the hot tag to clean house. Cinta de Oro slapped the blind tag as Pagano took flight for a step-up somersault onto Aéreo on the floor. Cinta de Oro attacked with a powerbomb and swanton to pin Hijo Del Impostor for the win.

Over in Japan, Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. teamed with Renee Dupree to win the Global Tag League 2020 tournament for Pro Wrestling NOAH. They also defeated Naomichi Marufuji and Masaaki Mochizuki to become new Global Honored Crown (GHC) Tag Team Champions.

Bestia del Ring celebrated his birthday with sons Rush, Dragon Lee, and Mistico.

We’ll close with a flashback video from Lucha Underground executive producer Eric Van Wagenen. One of the lasting memories from that show is Angelico’s crazy crossbody.

Van Wagenen posted Angelico practicing his amazing leap off the roof of Dario Cueto’s office.

Let’s hit that cheer for old times’ sake. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
