AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR APRIL 22
Come from the land where the wheat is still wheat, where the waters in the rivers is still water. In this land every man lends a hand when you need it, but your hands are full of life so you can help yourself and feel it. It’s been a long way from the red of my home, from the valleys and the green plains never ending, and now I liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.
The show opens with Cody Rhodes taking a seat in some kind of command center to watch tape of Sammy Guevara, Lance Archer, Kip Sabian, and Darby Allin.
He asks the question of who he is, where he fits into all of this, and he muses that there can be no future endeavors if you don’t endeavor. Is he a midcard lifer, comfortable in his role? He’s going to meet one of those four in the semifinals and he needs to be ready to answer the call. AEW critics will undoubtedly move the goalpost, but history will show.
Complacency is a dirty word in wrestling, but the ally of a top guy, because those who are just here to collect a check become flesh to pound, but none of these men are that. There’s plenty of will in this tournament, and now we find out who has enough of it.
Chris Jericho and Tony Schiavone are on commentary and they welcome us to the show.
Sammy Guevara cuts a promo running Darby Allin down and promising to expose him as a fraud.
Darby gets an equal and opposite promo as well, about how they’re more similar than he could know, but Allin stands on his own two feet.
Guevara dives on Allin before the bell! Throwing him hard into the barricade, jawing with the Gunns at ringside, throwing him into the barricade! He gets a ladder out from under the ring and bridges the apron and the barricade with it. Darby goes into the barricade again, Sammy has to adjust the ladder and then scoops Allin up to set him on top of it.
Headed up top... SPLASH ONTO THE LADDER!
Medics check on Darby and we go to break before the match can begin.
Back from commercial, referee Aubrey Edwards calls for the bell!

Cover... ALLIN KICKS OUT! Double wrist clutch, Guevara stomps his face in but again he refuses to stay down! Choking him in the corner, suplex lift sets him up top and Sammy climb up with him. Darby counters, gets him in the Tree of Woe and takes his boot off, wrenching the hell out of his foot! Guevara gets away and tears his kickpad off, trying to get some relief.
Allin catches a boot but Sammy kicks him with the good foot and gets to the apron for another kick. One-foot springboard into the Ace Crusher! Darby bleeding from somewhere, he picks the ankle and grabs a grapevine ankle lock! Guevara almost gets the ropes but Allin pulls him into the middle of the ring! Trading slaps, Darby breaks the hold and they slug it out with forearms!
Back to their feet, forearms into a backfist and Allin’s nose is clearly bleeding as Sammy targets it. Cover for two, Darby rolls to the floor and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Allin’s fired up and in control, off the ropes... GUEVARA DODGES THE SUICIDE DIVE AND DARBY EATS BARRICADE! Back inside, Sammy perched up top... 630 SENTON BUT DARBY’S TOO CLOSE TO THE ROPES! Allin blocking a whip, Guevara nails him with a knee to the midsection but Darby’s too fast and he gets the standing Diamond Dust! Quebrada countered into Feast Your Eyes countered into Last Supper... ALLIN GOT HIM, IT’S OVER!
Darby Allin wins by pinfall with Last Supper.
We get a Broken Matt Hardy video recapping his feud with the Hole of the Ass and his invitation for the Elite Deletion and how Sammy Guevara is the only one of the Inner Circle who’s had the testicles to even speak his name. So he invites Guevara to the Hardy Compound to be sentenced to deletion! Matt has a late revelation that Jericho wouldn’t mention his name because he doesn’t know how to deal with his Broken Brilliance.
So if Broken Matt is too intense, he offers up another entity, the Mortal Vessel, the Unkillable.
Stronger Than Death Matt Hardy takes over talking about how he’s gonna kick everybody in the Inner Circle’s ass until he gets to Chris Jericho.
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, Taz breaks Kenny Omega’s V-Trigger and Dragon suplex down for us all, which again, is very cool.

Atomic Drop into the barricade, a chop to follow it up and Cassidy is reeling. Havoc with a straight suplex on the floor, chops against the post, cold just throwing Orange into the post and chopping him after!
Back inside to break the count, Cassidy tries to duck a chop but Jimmy’s too fast and takes him back inside. Cutthroat choke, whip into the corner but Orange finally gets a boot up! Uppercut, rolling DVD, cover for two. Acid Rainmaker into a cross armbar but Cassidy keeps his hands clasped! Havoc breaks his grip but Orange gets a foot in the ropes to force the break!
Jimmy wrenching the fingers and wrist, Jim Breaks Special backs him into the corner and he bites Cassidy’s hand! Putting his hands in his pockets, forearm connects with a vengeance! Orange rolls under a rolling elbow, dropkick into a no-hands kip-up, Jimmy to the floor and he eats a dive! Back in, up top, diving crossbody! Duck a lariat, off the ropes, satellite DDT!
Best Friends cheering from ringside, front chancery, Havoc rams him into the corner and sets him up top. Cassidy fends him off, falling splash... NOPE! Both men staggered and trading strikes, Jimmy’s landing rather a bit harder, Orange ducks the Acid Rainmaker and hits a flying forearm! Penelope Ford on the apron for the distraction, Best Friends come over to equalize her, Sabian with a tope con giro to take them out!
Cassidy ducks her dive and catches Jimmy...

Post-match, Havoc snaps off a brainbuster and he and Kip beat Cassidy down! BEST FRIENDS MAKE THE SAVE!
Commentary promises us an update from Maxwell Jacob Friedman and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Maxwell Jacob Friedman appears in a video billed as being from “Max’s Rat’s House.”
He talks about how we’re collectively going through tough times— that he hasn’t wrestled on Dynamite. He knows we’re craving it, but he’s here to explain why he’s not working. He gets choked up briefly and says on his last appearance, while gambling early in the evening, he got a hangnail but he valiantly proceeded to gamble until the end of the show.
But he will be back, and like a phoenix he’ll rise from the ashes, because he’s better than us and we know it.
Lee Johnson vs. Wardlow
Collar and elbow, Wardlow overwhelms him with a knee strike, but Johnson slips out of a military press and lands a dropkick. Off the ropes, he gets caught, military press dropped into a powerslam! Huge release suplex, another one, Lee slips out of a third and rolls back in for forearms and uppercuts but Mr. Mayhem throws him into the corner and rams him with a shoulder thrust!

Brodie Lee will be in action, after the break.

Brodie Lee then appears to thank him and tell him he understands, before asking how tall he is. 6’2”, he answers, and 240 for weight, and he played college football. Mr. Brodie says he’s a hard worker but he hasn’t gotten his payoff. Some people are afraid of success, but not him, and he wants to offer this football man that success. They are the lions of AEW, and they feed on the prey.
He passes the guy a mask and tells him he’s home now, one of them.
