Inner Circle vs. The Elite to be AEW’s first Blood & Guts match

AEW announced a bombshell of a bout. The Inner Circle will compete against The Elite in the inaugural Blood & Guts match on the March 25 edition of Dynamite in Newark, NJ.

As seen in the promotional image, it will be Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, Sammy Guevara, Santana, and Ortiz against Cody Rhodes, Hangman Page, Kenny Omega, and the Young Bucks.

The rules for Blood & Guts are to be announced this Wednesday on Dynamite, but it appears to be something similar to War Games. All we know so far is there will be two rings and one giant cage. This match should rock.

AEW has some work to do between now and then to make the anticipation reach a fever pitch, but it shouldn’t be too hard with all the past altercations between the Inner Circle and the Elite. That path should reignite with Hangman Page and his mystery partner against Le Sex Gods on the next Dynamite. That doesn’t even take into consideration the drama between Hangman and the Elite, which will make it a 2-for-1 bonus in AEW’s soap opera department.

It will be interesting to see how this story overlaps with Chris Jericho’s rivalry with Jon Moxley. I can’t believe Moxley will let it slide how he was powerbombed off the stage last week. Could Moxley form his own crew to make this a three-way team fight? That idea reminds me of the news team brawls in the Anchorman movies. You better believe it would escalate quickly with Moxley involved.

Despite my excitement for the Blood & Guts match itself, I have to be honest about one thing in particular. The way AEW dropped this announcement on Twitter was very tame. Why couldn’t they give us the news on Dynamite as an awesome surprise? It makes me wonder if ticket sales for the March 25 show are on the sluggish side. The Inner Circle vs the Elite in war should entice any fence-sitters into attending.

Writer’s note: Multiple sources have reported that the Blood & Guts show sold over 10,000 tickets and is close to selling out. I was wrong about wondering if the match was to boost sales.

Are you excited for Blood & Guts? Do you like the teams chosen? What rules would you like to see for the match?
