MLW Roundup: Heavyweight title fight tonight, MLW vs AAA card, more!

Let’s catch up on this week’s news in MLW and preview Saturday night’s episode of Fusion. Episode 100 will feature a championship fight between Jacob Fatu and CIMA, the MLW vs AAA card has been revealed, and Konnan is looking to get back in the ring.

Episode 100

One of the strengths of MLW is giving the fans matchups that we would never think were possible. The main event for episode 100 of Fusion is one such example. Jacob Fatu will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against CIMA.

A few months ago, I never would have considered this to be a possibility. Now, I can’t wait to watch. A mini feud has been building between the Contra Unit and the Stronghearts. Contra has always been a step ahead. Fatu vs CIMA should be the blow-off, so I’m expecting the story of the match to be hog wild.

The other two bouts for episode 100 are also cool pairings that I didn’t know I wanted until I saw it on paper. Brian Pillman Jr. will wrestle Jimmy Havoc, with Priscilla Kelly by his side. That is an exciting clash of styles. Pretty boy vs hard boy. Davey Boy Smith Jr. will compete against Erick Stevens. That should be two big dudes getting feisty with catch wrestling technique.

Which match are you most excited for?

MLW Fusion airs on beIN SPORTS and PlayStation Vue Saturday nights at 9 pm ET / 6 pm PT. New episodes are posted on YouTube Saturdays at 6:05 pm ET. Fusion is also broadcast in the UK, Ireland, Israel, Africa, and France.

MLW vs AAA

MLW announced the official card for their co-promoted event with AAA in Tijuana, Mexico on March 13. It is a very solid lineup that should produce a month of entertaining Fusion episodes.

  • No DQ: Psycho Clown, Nicho El Millonario, & Niño Hamburguesa vs LA Park, Hijo de LA Park, & LA Park Jr.
  • Texano & Rey Escorpion vs Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Brian Pillman Jr.
  • Averno & Chessman vs Gino Medina & Richard Holiday
  • Extreme Fight: Pagano & Mortiz vs Savio Vega & Mance Warner
  • MLW National Openweight Championship: Laredo Kid v Alexander Hammerstone (c)
  • Xtreme Tiger & Puma King vs Tom Lawlor & Dominic Garrini
  • AAA Trios Championship: Hijo del Vikingo, Octagon Jr. & Myzteziz Jr. (c) vs Injustice
  • Black Destiny, Fantastick, & Rayo Star vs Poder del Norte

A couple of notes:

Nicho El Millonario is the Psicosis from WCW and WWE. LA Park, as a member of Los Ingobernables, has been part of a feud with Psycho Clown in AAA. It is mostly Rush vs Psycho, but Park vs Psycho should to able to get some heat from the crowd.

Los Mercenarios and the Hart Foundation should have a hard-hitting match.

The match of the night should be Laredo Kid vs Alexander Hammerstone or Los Jinetes del Aire vs Injustice. Those should both be super awesome.

I’m glad to see Poder del Norte get on the card. They are one of the best trios teams on the planet. They deserve the exposure to MLW fans. It’s too bad they are not competing against an MLW team. And, no, that Tito Santana is not the WWE legend. It is a different luchador altogether.

How does the MLW vs AAA card stack up in your eye?

Quick hits

MLW is teasing a comeback to the ring for Konnan. If his training goes well, Gino Medina is the likely match. I’ve always been one that cheers for legends in the ring, assuming they are healthy. Konnan can’t work like he used to, but he is still a good storyteller between the ropes. I look forward to it.

The Hart Foundation is working toward singles title shots. Brian Pillman Jr. is dropping weight from 220 pounds to compete at the 205 limit to challenge Myron Reed for the Middleweight Championship. Pillman is utilizing a keto diet. Meanwhile, Davey Boy Smith Jr. is in discussions to book a Heavyweight Championship fight this year. MLW reported, “League officials expect a bout sheet to be signed “within weeks” which puts this dream title match on a fast track for becoming a reality.”

Richard Holliday defended the Caribbean Championship on a private island owned by billionaire Richard Branson. The press release states, “The Dynasty’s publicist confirmed Holliday pinned Edwin González in 9:03 on Saturday night with the Market Crash (a gut-wrench powerbomb).” Even better, “The outing served as a reported team healing experience where Hammerstone and MJF squashed their beef.” The full story is amusing and worth a peak.

It was announced last week that Demus will be at Intimidation Games in Chicago on April 18. Demus is in a big feud with Mascarita Sagrada/Dorada in AAA. Guess who else is coming to Intimidation Games. Mascarita Dorada has been officially announced. He is better known to WWE audiences as El Torito.

Mascarita Dorada is already in high demand from the MLW roster. Tom Lawlor is eying him as a member of Team Filthy.

Mance Warner has plans for a buddy detective show.

When the rumors sprouted of MLW looking at a new TV deal, one of the goals was original scripted programming. If that is true and MLW doesn’t deliver a cop show with Mancer and Mascarita, then I’ll join Warner in tears.

We’ll close with a couple of new t-shirts. Dominic Garrini is a triangle man.

His shirt reminds me of the Chuck Norris movie poster for A Force of One.

IMDb

Too bad Team Filthy hates Walker, Texas Ranger.

Myron Reed is the Young GOAT.

Are you interested in seeing Konnan work in the ring with Gino Medina? How many light beers would you drink during a buddy detective series with Mancer and Mascarita?
