NXT is running with the two person booth of Mauro Ranallo and Nigel McGuinness tonight, with Beth Phoenix sitting this week out to help sell Monday’s closing angle where she took an RKO after confronting Randy Orton.
Mauro opened this week by setting up the Tegan Nox vs. Dakota Kai cage match that would start the show and informed us that Beth is “convalescing at home” after the heinous attack from Randy Orton.
This makes sense. It would undercut Monday’s angle if she showed up and called NXT as if nothing happened. And having her there in a neck brace would look ridiculous. People take that move all the time and most don’t need to miss time, but in this case, it makes sense because it risks the angle over shadowing her commentary or her no selling the angle most of the night.
Likely she’ll be back next week. And maybe her husband will be back on Raw by that time too.
