Do you have time on your hands these days? I know that you do. So, take a peak south of the border to see what top matches Mexico has to offer with AAA’s best matches of 2019.
Come for the familiar names, such as Kenny Omega, Young Bucks, Lucha Bros, Taya, Tessa Blanchard, and stay for luchadores that could make their way to AEW or WWE one day, such as Hijo del Vikingo, Laredo Kid, Taurus, Dragon Lee. There are also wild displays of sports entertainment in Blue Demon Jr. vs Dr. Wagner Jr. for mask vs hair and Big Mami vs Lady Maravilla for hair vs hair.
The match order with time stamps is as follows:
- Cruiserweight Championship: Laredo Kid (c) vs Hijo del Vikingo (00:01)
- Megacampeonato: Fenix (c) vs Puma King vs Laredo Kid vs Taurus (15:01)
- Reina de Reinas Championship: Tessa Blanchard (c) vs Taya (30:40)
- Tag Team Championship: The Young Bucks (c) vs Lucha Bros (41:19)
- Megacampeonato: Fenix (c) vs Kenny Omega (53:23)
- Tag Team Championship: Lucha Bros (c) vs LAX (aka Santana & Ortiz) (1:13:13)
- Megacampeonato: Kenny Omega (c) vs Dragon Lee (1:25:36)
- Mask vs Hair: Blue Demon Jr. vs Dr. Wagner Jr. (1:45:16)
- Hair vs Hair: Big Mami vs Lady Maravilla (1:56:40)
- Mask vs Hair 8-way Cage Match: Psycho Clown vs Blue Demon Jr. vs Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Texano vs Rey Escorpion vs Chessman vs Aerostar vs Monster Clown (2:13:01)
You can’t go wrong with any of these matches. The first two contests are a good taste of quality luchador action. The Kenny Omega bouts are obviously good. The Lucha Bros bouts are obviously good. The Blue Demon Jr. vs Dr. Wagner Jr. and Big Mami vs Lady Maravilla lucha de apuesta matches are wild and over the top. AAA often walks the tightrope between awesome and disaster with those epic main events, but those turned out great in the sports entertainment sense. Big Mami vs Lady Maravilla was my personal pick for match of the year.
If you are interested in the aftermath of the ladies’ hair vs hair and the 8-way cage match lucha de apuestas bout, then I would recommend watching the individual videos for them. The best of 2019 video doesn’t show any haircuts or unmaskings. Big Mami vs Lady Maravilla (here) has a surprise celebration at the end, but unfortunately copyright rules made them remove, “Everybody,” by Backstreet Boys. The cage match (here) had a luchador lose his mask.
Which AAA match was your favorite for 2019? Which of this group will you watch first?
