Everybody who comes to Cageside Seats has an opinion about what's going on in pro wrestling - The Smark's Shoot Standings (S3) are where YOU let us know YOURS.
Cast a vote in the comments. Give us the four performers you think entertained or impressed the most in the last week, and feel free to talk about why. And/or vote for your top performer in our poll.
We also have the outcome of last week's voting, the results of which make up our annual competition for Performer of the Year.
Remember, the Standings are for the previous week’s nationally televised and internet streaming pro wrestling shows - the Mar. 23 episode of Monday Night Raw, Tuesday’s Impact & AEW Dark, Dynamite & NXT from Wednesday, NXT UK on Mar. 26, SmackDown on Friday, this week’s MLW Fusion & ROH TV, and any other televised or internet streaming wrestling that aired from Mar. 22 - 28, 2020.
Make YOUR mark, smarks!
A note here instead of my usual bullet point nonsense, as it becomes all but a mathematical lock that The Man will be our first ever two-time and back-to-back Performer of the Year winner. While I know she’s worn out her welcome for some fans, I do think she’s a logical choice for that honor. WWE clearly values her as one of their top stars, and they’re still clearly the biggest game in town, so that makes her one of the biggest stars in the business. She’s held the top title in her division on their flagship show for the entire voting period. That’s a feat.
Having said that, I do plan on revisiting whether we as a voting community want to continue to allow assigning all the points from a ballot to one person. Bex isn’t the only person who’s benefitted from this, but it’s also clearly become a thing for Lynch mega-fans to do over the second half of the year.
I’m not sure what the right answer is. I’ve always wanted The S3 to reflect the many different ways fans appreciate pro wrestling, and people who ride or die with their faves is one of those ways. But I don’t want the Standing to be over-weighted toward that approach. So when we get to year-end business in a week or so, I’ll be putting the question to you, dear Cagesiders.
