Pagano and Chessman fight at AAA Triplemania XXVIII press conference

AAA began the build toward Triplemania XXVIII with a special press conference. It included three match announcements and a spontaneous eruption of fisticuffs.

Triplemania XXVIII is scheduled for August 22, 2020 in Mexico City. AAA Vice President Dorian Roldan stated that practically all the matches will have stakes, whether it be masks, hair, or championships.

The first bout announced with be a four team mask vs mask tournament.

The teams will be:

  • Myzteziz Jr. & Octagon Jr.
  • La Parka Negra & Dave the Clown
  • Aerostar & Drago
  • Fenix & Pentagon

The format will be two tag bouts during regular AAA TV tapings of Nacemos Para Luchar. The losing teams will have a match at Verano de Escándalo, which appears to be scheduled for May 23. The losers of that bout will square off in mask vs mask at Triplemania XXVIII.

This should result in an interesting choice to lose their mask. I think we can safely count out the Lucha Bros. La Parka Negra versus Dave the Clown seems like an odd choice to be on the card, since they are mid-level heels. That leaves Myzteziz Jr. & Octagon Jr. and Aerostar & Drago as two intriguing matchups. Myzteziz and Octagon are trios champs with Hijo del Vikingo. Aerostar and Drago have a long history of friendship. As fans, we can’t lose with either of those options.

The next match announced was a five-person contest with talent from AAA, AEW, and Impact. Maybe AAA can squeeze an MLW wrestler in there. AAA has partnerships with all three promotions. The participants were not named at this press conference, but we can speculate based on the silhouettes in the graphic.

The right side looks like Kenny Omega and Laredo Kid. I’d guess the bald head in the middle to be Impact’s Michael Elgin. He has history in Mexico. The other two appear to have curly hair. One looks like a permed Hulk Hogan. Who could fit that description?

The final match announcement from today’s press conference was hair vs hair for Pagano and Chessman.

Roldan mentioned that it would be no rules. That means you can count on extreme action.

The best part of the press conference came when Chessman and Pagano faced off for photos. Pagano came in rowdy looking for action. Chessman calmly said that he would respect the public and not engage. This was not the place for a fight.

The two did a staredown for photographers. That’s when Chessman went rudo.

Chessman sucker punched Pagano. Pagano struck back. The brawl carried over to the sofa.

If there’s one thing in combat sports that always gets me excited, it is a fight at the press conference. Woo wee!

A couple of other tidbits were mentioned during the press conference. Triplemania Regia will return on October 10 from Monterrey. La Parka will have a special presentation at Triplemania XXVIII to honor his death. About Rush vs LA Park for mask vs hair, Roldan brushed off an answer but didn’t outright deny it would be happening.

The full press conference is available for viewing (here). The fight with Chessman and Pagano starts at the 55:00 mark.

What do you think of the first three matches announced for Triplemania XXVIII? Which tag team do you want to see in mask vs mask? Who would be your choices for the five-man match from AAA, AEW, and Impact? Does Chessman vs Pagano in hair vs hair light your fire?
