A women’s title match has been expected for AEW’s Revolution PPV on February 29. Two weeks ago, Nyla Rose became queen bee by dethroning Riho to win the AEW Women’s World Championship. Last week, AEW teased Kris Statlander and Big Swole as potential contenders. We now know the official answer. Nyla Rose will wrestle Statlander for the women’s title at Revolution.

On the surface, this match sounds good. Two powerhouse ladies will be hossing it up. I know I’m excited.
Digger a little deeper, it shows how AEW has been dropping the ball on developing the women’s division. One of the biggest gripes from AEW fans is the lack of stories for the women. AEW has shown improvement over the past months, but this announcement was rather lackluster as it was delivered over Twitter.
It would be one thing if Rose vs Statlander was the obvious direction. Take for example Darby Allin vs Sammy Guevara. That match was made official during, “AEW Road to Kansas City,” on YouTube. The method for that announcement was alright, because Allin used cue cards last week to say he would see Guevara at Revolution. There was no surprise those two would be fighting at the PPV.
For the women’s match, we have no idea why Statlander was given the opportunity. Statlander is ranked #2. Did AEW decide she will leapfrog Riho to #1 but hasn’t told us yet? We’ll find out that answer Wednesday with the release of the next rankings. What’s the deal with Big Swole? Why have her come out last week if she won’t be involved? If it’s not foreshadowing for Swole to make her presence felt at Revolution via interference, then I’m stumped.
The announcement for Rose vs Statlander would have been better off being delayed until after the rankings or during Dynamite on Wednesday night, so we can have some story context. These little details matter to making fans invest in the drama.
As of now, here are the official matches on the card for Revolution:
- AEW World Championship: Chris Jericho (c) vs Jon Moxley
- AEW World Tag Team Championship: Hangman Page & Kenny Omega (c) vs The Young Bucks
- AEW World Women’s Championship: Nyla Rose (c) vs Kris Statlander
- Cody Rhodes vs MJF
- Dustin Rhodes vs Jake Hager
- Darby Allin vs Sammy Guevara
Are you excited for the addition of Nyla Rose vs Kris Statlander? What do you think of AEW’s method of revealing the announcement on Twitter?
