AAA Rey de Reyes full card: Ingobernables vs Psycho Circus, Kenny Omega title defense, more!

AAA has announced the full card for Rey de Reyes. It features the Rey de Reyes tournament, title defenses from Kenny Omega, the Lucha Bros, and the Jinetes del Aire, and a big feud in the main event that could provide hints for the Triplemania feature fight.

Rey de Reyes is the first of AAA’s ‘big five’ annual events. It is scheduled for Saturday, March 21 in Merida, Yucatan. It will most likely be available for free live streaming on AAA’s Twitch channel.

Lucha Libre AAA

Here is the card as advertised:

  • Psycho Clown, Monster Clown, & Murder Clown vs Rush, LA Park, & Bestia del Ring
  • Rey de Reyes: Blue Demon Jr., Aerostar, Michael Nakazawa, Mascarita Sagrada, Mr. Iguana, Niño Hamburguesa, Dave the Clown, Arez, Dinastia, Villano III Jr.
  • Megacampeonato: Kenny Omega (c) vs Laredo Kid
  • Tag Team Championship: Pentagon & Fenix (c) vs Dezmond Xavier & Zachary Wentz
  • Trios Championship: Hijo del Vikingo, Myzteziz Jr. & Octagon Jr. (c) vs Rey Escorpion, Texano, & La Hiedra
  • Pagano, Hijo de LA Park, & LA Park Jr. vs OGTs vs Poder del Norte
  • Drago & Drago Kid vs La Parka Negra & La Parkita Negra

The main event features the newly reunited Psycho Circus to take on Los Ingobernables. At this point, I’d say all signs are pointing toward Psycho Clown vs Rush to be in the main event of Triplemania in August. It will be interesting to see if this match at Rey de Reyes provides any fuel for a potential mask vs hair bet.

The Rey de Reyes match is considered a tournament. Some years it is a legit tournament and other years it is some form of a battle royal or Royal Rumble. While this year’s field has plenty of exciting luchadores, it looks a little lackluster in star power. Blue Demon Jr. is the only main event player. Aerostar, who won last year, is the only previous winner.

There are usually unannounced surprise entrants for Rey de Reyes. I noticed Sin Cara, now going by Cinta de Oro, is not listed at all on the card. He hasn’t wrestled with AAA since making a run-in at Guerra de Titanes in December. Perhaps winning Rey de Reyes could be his big moment. Another missing name is Daga. He is the current Latin American Champion. He’s always squawking about getting all the gold. The Rey de Reyes prize would be a nice addition to Daga’s resume.

Best of all about Rey de Reyes, the winner gets a huge, badass sword. Here is the 2018 winner, Rey Escorpion.

Kenny Omega will have a big challenge defending the Megacampeonato against Laredo Kid. Laredo is the current Cruiserweight Champion. This has potential to be one of the best matches of the year. I don’t think Omega is going to drop the belt here, but Laredo would be a good choice to become the next Mega Champ.

The Lucha Bros defending tag gold against the Rascalz is unexpected. This should be a flashy bout to bolster the Lucha Bros’ claims that they are the best tag team on the planet.

Other thoughts: La Hiedra is getting intergender action with Los Mercenarios against the Jinetes del Aire. If Los Mercenarios win, she might become the first woman to hold a men’s title in AAA. I’m pretty sure that would be the case, but I’m not 100% positive. Pagano teaming with the sons of LA Park is odd. Pagano and papa Park had been feuding. Drago and Drago Kid are not related in story or real life, as far as I know. It is weird to see Drago in the curtain jerker.

Which match at Rey de Reyes excites you the most? Do you foresee any gold changing hands?
