AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR DEC. 30
It’s Wednesday night, and you know what that means— no lyrics today, folks. We’re celebrating the life and times of the late great Mr. Brodie Lee and I want to keep the focus on that. On with the show!
The show opens with the AEW roster and crew on the stage with Brodie’s wife and kids for a ten bell salute in his memory.
We get a video memorial to Lee from Jon Moxley talking about their decade long friendship and what a great guy he was.
Colt Cabana & Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) vs. Matt Hardy & Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen)
Just a heads up for y’all, I’ve got a hell of a migraine tonight so we’re gonna be going a little lighter on play-by-play detail than usual.
Anyway, Cabana and the Bucks a well-oiled machine early, cutting through Private Party and demanding Hardy come in before sending him to the floor and throwing dives. Colt follows it up with an Asai Moonsault, the Bucks bring the double-teams back in the ring as Hardy tags out to Quen and Kassidy tries to get involved and gets cut right off.
Matt Jackson finds himself on the back foot, Hardy and the Private Party with a heat segment, Side Effect gets a tight two! Jackson’s efforts to escape intensify, he hits a Twist of Fate on ol’ Stronger Than Death and tags out to Cabana! Colt with a Quebrada that takes both Private Party men out, a little Flip, Flop, and Fly, the Bionic Elbow, a tijeras, Flying Asshole... SO CLOSE!
Colt goes for the discus lariat, blocked, assisted crucifix pin nearly puts him down! Tag to Quen, springboard splash, again a tight two! Working Cabana over, Private Party get their wings clipped, Nick with a superkick to Hardy and he tags in, clearing house on Marq Quen! Slingshot X-Factor into an apron moonsault, Jackson putting together one of those runs of his only to get cut off by Gin & Juice!
Hardy takes advantage, Twist of Fate, senton atomico from Kassidy, Quen with a shooting star press... MATT AND COLT BREAK THE PIN UP! Hardy’s got a chair while referee Rick Knox is distracted but Marq doesn’t want it! Colt tags back in, knocks Hardy down, Bionic Elbow to Marq, he blocks Gin & Juice... CHICAGO SKYLINE! INDIETAKER! Cabana leaps in...
Colt Cabana & Young Bucks win by pinfall with the Superman pin from Cabana on Marq Quen.
Post-match, the Acclaimed come to the ring.
Max Caster has something to say about the Dark Order stuff tonight, but he doesn’t get to it because SCU attack him from behind! SUPERKICK PARTY! DOUBLE BIONIC ELBOWS!
Commentary (including Chris Jericho tonight) hypes up the rest of our card to send us to break.
Back from commercial, we get a memorial from Darby Allin about how Brodie Lee was the number one person that he wanted to wrestle.
Eddie Kingston gets on the mic during his entrance and tells Brodie that he loves him and misses him and this is for him, but the Dark Order is nothing without him and they’re gonna prove it tonight.
Butcher and the Blade (Andy “Butcher” Williams & Pepper “Blade” Parks) & Eddie Kingston vs. Dark Order (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson) & Lance Archer
Lance Archer’s doing a bit of “Big Rig” Brodie Lee / Luke Harper cosplay here, so that’s nice.
Uno superkicks Kingston at the jump and we’ve got a brawl! Archer slamming his teammates on Eddie, getting double suplexed onto him as the Dark Order boys and the Murderhawk Monster take control early. Bunny with a little interference, the brawl threatens to break out again but referee Bryce Remsburg regains control and Grayson finds himself on the wrong end of the stick for a while.
Jake “the Snake” Roberts and Evil Uno return the favor and Stu hits a Truck Stop to send us to break!
Back from commercial, Kingston and Uno are trading strikes, Eddie overwhelms him with palm strikes but Backfist to the Future misses twice and Evil hits a half nelson suplex! Tags made, Archer runs over Blade to clear the apron and shrugs off his best shots! Vicious ripcord chokeslam... ROPEWALK MOONSAULT FROM THE BIG MAN! Butcher comes in for a HOSS FIGHT, Dark Order running double teams but Eddie and Andy break it up!
Working Grayson over, Alarm Clock into a DDT... NO DICE! Archer tags in and goes to town on Parks, but Kingston makes the save to stop Blackout. Grayson in while Lance goes after Eddie, springboard apron DDT takes Williams out! Blade up in the Gory Special...
Dark Order & Lance Archer win by pinfall with Fatality from Dark Order on Pepper Parks.
Post-match, Eddie Kingston eats elbows from Dark Order and Lance Archer... AND A SHORT-ARM LARIAT FROM JAKE ROBERTS!
We get another memorial to Brodie Lee, this one a medley of comments from Dax Harwood, Arn Anderson, Colt Cabana, Bryce Remsburg, who puts him on the Mount Rushmore of wrestling dads.
And so we go to break.
“Hangman” Adam Page & Beaver Boys (Alex Reynolds) vs. Inner Circle (Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Ortiz, & Santana)
Friedman and Page to start, a bit of light feeling out and Adam throws the papers at him! Max heads to the floor and yells at Brodie Lee, Jr. just to remind us all that he’s a massive asshole. Back inside, tags, cycling through the matchups New Japan-style, doing Silver and Ortiz, then Reynolds and Santana. Alex finds himself cut off and the Inner Circle team set to working him over.
It’s not much of a heat segment, however, because Page tags in and lights the heels up, dropping MJF with a lariat! The Inner Circle do a comeback on him and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Friedman hits a slam on Page and flips Brodie Lee, Jr. the bird because again, giant asshole. Anyway, he pays for it, Hangman cutting him out of mid-air with a boot! The Meat Man tags in and clears house on the Inner Circle! Big diving crossbody into a Liger Bomb on Ortiz... NOPE! Santana cuts him off, back roll Ace Crusher, Silver comes in, double stomp, Ortiz with a spinebuster!
Rolling elbow from Page, Friedamn with an arm drag into the turnbuckles! John Silver hits a wild flip piledriver on MJF! A dive, Max cuts him off with a neck snap, Heat Seeker, Ortiz with a Liger Bomb of his own, Santana with a kick, Reynolds breaks it up! Referee Aubrey Edwards distracted, Wardlow comes in and destroys Alex Reynolds... ERICK ROWAN IS HERE! HE TAKES WARDLOW OUT WITH THE CLAW SLAM! THEY BRAWL TO THE BACK!
Beaver Boys double-team Ortiz, Hangman in with Buckshot... MJF PULLS ORTIZ’ FOOT ON THE ROPES! FRIEDMAN GETS TAKEN OUT BY A KENDO STICK SHOT FROM BRODIE, JR! Silver winds it up...
“Hangman” Adam Page & Beaver Boys win by pinfall with a discus lariat from John Silver on Ortiz.
Post-match, Erick Rowan comes back out to help Silver up. He pulls out a sign that reads “Goodbye for now, my brother. See you down the road.” and he’s crying and I’m crying and everybody’s crying.
Eddie Kingston has a memorial for us next where he talks about all the different ways he’s gonna miss Brodie.
The Dark Order make their entrance to send us to break.
Anna Jay & Tay Conti vs. Dr. Britt Baker, DMD & Penelope Ford
Jay and Baker to start, mat grappling in the feeling out, Ford tags in and gets isolated by Anna and Tay. Conti busting out the judo, Britt’s able to tag back in, little a interference from Rebel for treat, cheap shot from Penelope for a nearfall and we go to break.
Back from commercial, we get tags and Anna Jay comes in hot on Baker! Take her leg out, running blockbuster, hip attack in the corner, roll-through enzuigiri but Ford cuts her off with a lungblower! Conti comes in and takes Penelope out with a spin-out slam, and Britt nails her with a Sling Blade! Fisherman clutch, reversed, Jay with a crescent kick to cut her off, distracted by her own emotions and Baker clobbers her from behind!
Fisherman neckbreaker... NOPE! Whip across, Baker with a reverse STO into the turnbuckles, Ford legal, diving blockbuster... NO GOOD! Handspring caught, Anna’s got the Queenslayer on, Conti cuts Baker off...
Anna Jay & Tay Conti win by submission with the Queenslayer from Jay on Ford.
Post-match, Baker is interviewed by Tony Schiavone to complain about how the match was rigged and the whole thing is kind of a Big Rig... (Get it?)
Anyway, Thunder Rosa attacks her, Rebel fails to pull her off, referees swarm and we get a pull-apart.
Commentary hypes up next week’s show and the show the week after as well.
We get a memorial from Chris Jericho, talking about the twenty-seven times he got to wrestle Brodie Lee. He tells a story about spending time with Brodie in Saudi Arabia and puts him over.
Team Taz make their entrance to send us to break.
Cody Rhodes, Orange Cassidy, and Preston “10” Vance vs. Team Taz (Brian Cage, “Absolute” Ricky Starks, & “Powerhouse” Will Hobbs)
Rhodes and Hobbs to start, Powerhouse using his strength to rebuff Cody. Starks comes in and Rhodes gets the better of him, tagging out to Vance. Slingshot wheelbarrow suplex takes Ricky out and Will tags back in, but he wants Cassidy! Preston tags out, Orange in, hands in his pockets, turning a test of strength down. Hobbs shoves him, Cassidy with a vicious shoulder block and Powerhouse shoves him down to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Hobbs is working Cassidy over. Delayed vertical suplex, tag to Cage and we’re in heat segment territory. Starks loses control of Orange and Rhodes comes in hot off the tag! Lariats, whip reversed, up and over, snap scoop powerslam for two! Stereo discus lariats and both men are down and out! Vance tags in, clearing the apron, off the ropes, catch a crossbody, turn it into a running powerslam!
Drawing Starks up... BRODIE BOMB! A boot knocks Hobbs off the apron, ducking and dodging, Ricky with a spear but Cassidy breaks it up! Beach Break countered, Roshambo coutnered, tornado DDT connects! The match breaks down into “everybody do something cool”, Starks gets a nearfall of a tornado DDT! Arn Anderson and Taz get up on the stage with chairs, Orange Punch sends Cage running, Cross Rhodes to Ricky!
Vance drops him with a spinebuster...
Cody Rhodes, Orange Cassidy, & Preston “10” Vance win by pinfall with a spinebuster from Vance on Ricky Starks.
Post-match, Team Taz attack, Hook exploder suplexing Cassidy! Cage and Hobbs go to work on Cody but the lights go out...
Darby Allin makes his entrance and the lights go out before he comes to the ring!
Sting is here! He and Darby come to the ring to back Brodie Lee, Jr.’s favorites up and Team Taz backs down!
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, Cody Rhodes is in the ring to memorialize Brodie Lee
You can just a man’s character by how he treats somebody that can do him no good, he quotes, and he brings up all the stories folks have had of Brodie having a positive effect on their lives and careers, in every company, in every locker room. In short, Lee was a beautiful man, and he brings Brodie Lee, Jr. out.
-1 gets a full entrance to his dad’s music, his mom Amanda holding his hand and carrying Brodie’s boots to the ring, with Preston “10” Vance and Tony Khan following a few steps behind. Amanda gives -1 the boots and he sets them in the middle of the ring. Cody puts a bandana on them and hugs the kid before he takes a few steps back.
Tony gets on the mic and tells Brodie that his father was the greatest TNT Champion they’ve ever had, and he presents him with a TNT Championship belt for life. Rhodes puts it on -1’s shoulders. Khan thanks everybody for being here and he talks about honoring Brodie Lee and his family with a special tribute video.
We toss to the video package, a memorial music video covering Lee’s career, both in AEW and on the indies, and his personal life with plenty of candid photos. A couple WWE shots slip their way in there, too, hanging out with Bray Wyatt and Big E and such.
That’s the show, folks.
