AAA Triplemania XXVIII preview: Come for Kenny Omega and stay for a violent hair vs hair clash

Tonight is the night for lucha libre in all its glory. AAA is bringing their top stars for thrills, spills, and chills at Triplemania XXVIII. Kenny Omega wrestling Laredo Kid will be the hook for many fans, but the rest of the card should be a treat as well.

AAA

Triplemania XXVIII will be streamed live on AAA’s YouTube and Facebook pages. Festivities kick off at 8 pm ET.

Let’s break it down.

Hair vs Hair: Pagano vs Chessman

Pagano and Chessman have been battling for over a year, and now the time is here for hair versus hair. Pagano has a rooster top, while Chessman has a long scraggly mane. One man will be leaving Triplemania with his head shaved clean.

Expect the action to be extreme. Both men thrive in violence. Tables, chairs, and maybe even fire could be on the menu. You know the hatred is heavy when you whack someone’s feet while they are being stretched out. Chessman couldn’t even give Pagano a pass when being attended to by medical staff.

Prediction: Pagano. He has taken the larger brunt of pain, so it will be time for his triumph.

AAA Megacampeonato: Kenny Omega (c) vs Laredo Kid

Kenny Omega is returning to Mexico to be the best bout machine. He doesn’t have to worry about storylines or character here. Omega can come in with guns blazing to rock the ring.

Laredo Kid is often hailed as the next breakout luchador. Laredo is the current Cruiserweight Champ and is looking to elevate his status. This will be his chance to dance with one of the best.

Prediction: Kenny Omega retains. Had Omega not just won the AEW World Championship, I would have went with the upset by Laredo Kid. As it stands now, a loss by Omega would stunt his current belt collector hobby.

Leyenda Americana & Aracno vs Terror Purpura & Venenoide

This contest is a novelty bout tying in to a merchandise partnership with Marvel. It has been hinted by Dorian Roldan that the masked men will be first-class luchadores, but he stopped short of spoiling any surprises.

AAA and Marvel have been releasing short teasers to hype the match.

Prediction: Leyenda Americana and Aracno should sell more toys, so they need the win.

Psycho Clown, Murder Clown, & Monster Clown vs LA Park, Hijo de LA Park, & Blue Demon Jr.

Psycho Circus reformed as a unit after Monster Clown lost his mask. The other squad may have internal beef. Heated issues between LA Park and Blue Demon Jr. have yet to be resolved. I wouldn’t be surprised if this match sets up a future fight between the two.

Prediction: Psycho Circus for a feel-good win.

Copa Triplemania: Faby Apache vs Lady Maravilla vs Chik Tormenta vs Lady Shani vs La Hiedra vs Hades

The women are getting a chance to shine with their first Copa Triplemania. Rules for this contest are never concrete. Some years it is a tournament, and other years it is a Royal Rumble or battle royal. AAA has not declared which style of match this will be.

One thing for certain is that the action will be stiff. AAA’s luchadores don’t hold anything back.

Faby Apache is AAA’s top star of the women’s division and most likely to win the special honor. A key to keep an eye on is if Hijo de Tirantes is referee and tries to screw her. They have been feuding for quite some time.

Prediction: Faby Apache. She’s due for a showdown with Taya for the Reina de Reinas Championship, and this win should give her the momentum needed to request the bout.

AAA Tag Team Championship: Fenix & Pentagon (c) vs Texano Jr. & Rey Escorpion vs Myzteziz Jr. & Octagon Jr.

The Lucha Bros title reign is running on 544 days and counting. Los Mercenarios duo of Texano and Rey Escorpion are looking to take back the tag belts that they lost to Fenix and Pentagon in 2019. Myzteziz and Octagon were thrown in, because they are awesome high-flyers. They are also two-thirds of the Trios champs with Hijo del Vikingo.

The status of Pentagon is up for question. Rumors state he is dealing with an injury. AAA isn’t the type of company to announce card changes, so we’ll have to wait and see if he shows up with his brother.

Even if Pentagon is missing, this contest should still be a dandy. Texano and Rey Escorpion are entertaining bruisers, while Fenix, Myzteziz, and Octagon will make your eyes pop with their crazy moves.

Prediction: Los Mercenarios take gold. A title change would shake things up. Plus, there is a third team to take the fall to protect the Lucha Bros.

Poder del Norte (Mocho Cota Jr., Carta Brava Jr., & Tito Santana) vs Niño Hamburguesa, Maximo, & Mr. Iguana

A trios bout with fan favorites against the best threesome in lucha libre. Watching the teamwork of Poder del Norte is always a treat. This is a good choice to open the show.

Prediction: Poder del Norte. The former Trios champs aren’t losing to a ragtag bunch of jokers.

The show will also feature the Hall of Fame induction for La Parka. Special guests for Triplemania include Charro Gonzalez and Molotov, so there may be a musical number or two.

Notable in absence are Latin American Champion Daga and Reina de Reinas Champion Taya. Hijo del Vikingo, Aerostar, and Drago are also not on the card. They have been dealing with injuries. AAA usually has a surprise or two up their sleeve for Triplemania, so a return may be in order.
