AEW released their latest rankings (Nov. 11, 2020). Let’s check out the movers and shakers.
Men:
The results at Full Gear caused a major shift in the top 5. There is a lot of change, and I like it. Fresh blood and new possibilities are abound.
Darby Allin won the TNT Championship to slide to the title side. Kenny Omega defeated Hangman Page to win the #1 contender tournament. He rightfully entered at the top of the list. MJF remained #2 with a strong victory over Chris Jericho. Cody Rhodes’ TNT loss dropped him from champ to #3. Team Taz won’t be happy about Brian Cage’s fall from #1 to #4, but, at least Ricky Starks climbed up to #5. Shawn Spears and Lance Archer got the short end of the stick this week in their exit. I’m sure Archer will murder someone as a result.
Forecasting between now and the end of the year, I think Omega will get his title shot in 2020. The Revolution PPV on February 29 is a long time for Jon Moxley and Omega to wait. With Starks entering the top 5, he should be on the fast track for a TNT title shot against Allin. Cody and Cage may find a date to dance. Cody has been putting on size as a heavyweight slayer, and Cage needs slaying.
Women:
Big Swole leaped up from #4 to #1. Nyla Rose dropped a spot to #2 after losing to Hikaru Shida at Full Gear. Penelope Ford fell one spot accordingly with the rise of Swole. Serena Deeb makes her top 5 debut at #4 on the strength of retaining the NWA Women’s Championship against Allysin Kay. Abadon fell out from #3.
Deeb is the most interesting matchup for Shida at the moment, but I’m not sure the NWA would want their champ taking another loss. The first time was Thunder Rosa going down to the AEW champ. Dr. Britt Baker would be intriguing, but she’d be better served to wait for the Revolution PPV after the records reset for the new year.
Tag Team:
The Young Bucks finally achieved the glory they desired by dethroning FTR as tag champs at Full Gear. FTR takes over #1 from the Bucks. Jurassic Express hopped over Butcher & Blade, presumably due to a solid win against Sonny Kiss & Joey Janela on Dark. The meat men will get their chance to impress tonight on Dynamite against the Natural Nightmares in a Bunkhouse match.
Do you agree with AEW’s rankings this week? If not, what would you change?
