AEW Rankings (Jan. 8, 2020): Cody Rhodes and Awesome Kong are the big movers

AEW released their latest rankings (Jan. 8, 2020). This is the first batch for the new year. Records have reset, but the last rankings of 2019 are still used as a basis. Let’s check out the movers and shakers.

Men:

AEW

The top five names are the same as last time, but Cody Rhodes leaped over Kenny Omega and PAC due to his win over Darby Allin. That’s the fourth week in a row with the same five, however, I think MJF’s spot could be ripe for the picking. There is a strong chance that he does not compete until wrestling Cody at the Revolution PPV on February 29. That is if Cody accepts MJF’s stipulations.

Women:

AEW

Kris Statlander remains in the top spot and will get her title shot tonight on Dynamite against Riho. Hikaru Shida, Nya Rose, and Britt Baker all took the loss to Riho in the four-way last week. Baker dropped from #2 to #5 for being pinned. Awesome Kong jumped up to #4 due to the squash victory against Skyler Moore on AEW Dark. Emi Sakura got the boot from #5.

Tag team:

AEW

No changes this week. There will be a big match tonight with the Lucha Bros against the Rhodes Bros. A win would definitely shoot Cody and Dustin upward.

Parting thought. Some may not like AEW using the last rankings for 2019 as the basis this week, but keep in mind that there weren’t enough matches last week to go around to do three full sets of fresh rankings from scratch.

Do you agree with AEW’s rankings this week? If not, what would you change?
