2019 was not Ring of Honor’s best year.
Cody Rhodes & The Young Bucks bounced, using the buzz from ALL OUT - a show ROH helped produce - to form a competitor that quickly became a bigger deal than ROH. Their contributions to a Madison Square Garden event with New Japan were a disaster, and allegedly led to NJPW reconsidering their partnership. They got as many headlines for reports of Bully Ray bullying a fan as they did for Bully Ray’s angles, and more people read former producer Joey Mercury’s allegations the company is mismanaged than attended their year-end Final Battle event.
But they hope to turn things around in 2020. And to do that, they have to get fans to give them a chance. That’s tougher than it sounds in a crowded pro wrestling marketplace, which is probably why ROH is taking the drastic step of literally giving shows away.
It started last week when they made Final Battle - a PPV which historically has been their WrestleMania - free on YouTube for a couple days.
Now, they’ve announced a Free Enterprise, a show in Baltimore which has its ticket price right in the name.
As you can see from the press release, this is a notable show for the company. They’re set to debut two of their biggest signings, Slex and Session Moth Martina, on Feb. 9 at UMBC Event Center. And they’ve got the hottest free agent in sports entertainment featured front and center in Marty Scurll.

Ring of Honor Wrestling Announces a FREE Show in Baltimore on Feb. 9!
Baltimore, MD – Ring of Honor has the most loyal and passionate fans in professional wrestling - and has come up with something special to thank everyone for nearly two decades of unwavering support.
On Sunday, Feb. 9th at Baltimore’s UMBC Event Center, Ring of Honor Wrestling presents Free Enterprise, a live event featuring the best professional wrestlers on the planet that is absolutely FREE to attend.
Free Enterprise is an extension of the ongoing #ROHCares initiative in which ROH gives back to the community. This program has seen top stars regularly visit children’s hospitals and has provided veterans with free tickets to live events through a partnership with Vet Tix. Now ROH is giving all professional wrestling fans the ultimate opportunity to feel the ROH Experience in its hometown of Baltimore, MD, absolutely FREE.
Big matches have already been signed for this major event featuring the debut of top Australian star Slex versus Flip Gordon and The Briscoes versus Bandido and Flamita. Also, the dominant team of Dan Maff and Jeff Cobb will get their chance at ROH gold as they compete for the ROH World Tag Team Championship against current champions Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham. Other stars signed to compete are ROH World Champion PCO, ROH World TV Champion Dragon Lee, “El Toro Blanco” RUSH, “The Villain” Marty Scurll, and the Women of Honor debut of Session Moth Martina! More great matches and the main event will be announced very soon!

You’ll presumably need to subscribe to Honor Club to watch the show from somewhere other than Baltimore, but curiosity about the new acts and The Villain’s future may lead to more folks doing just that. And hopefully they’ll draw a decent crowd to make it seem more exciting for those streaming at home.
You can’t beat the price. Or blame ROH for trying.
