The eyes of the wrestling world will be on Chris Jericho’s match with Hiroshi Tanahashi tomorrow at Wrestle Kingdom 14, for several reasons. It’s a first time ever clash of all-time greats. It will supposedly lead to an AEW title shot for Tanahashi if he wins.
Add “it could be Jericho’s last New Japan match” to the list (pun semi-intended).
The Painmaker told Sports Illustrated there are still a couple guys on the NJPW roster he’d like to face, but he’s not sure he’ll be back:
“I came to work with Omega, Naito, Okada, and Tanahashi.
Will I come back after the Tana match? I don’t know. I’d love to work with Ospreay and Ibushi. It might be mission accomplished after this, it might not, but it’s really cool to go back as a main event heavyweight after being a junior heavyweight.”
When talking about how he evolves his wrestling gimmicks later in the interview, Jericho says:
“If you like something I do, you better enjoy it. When it’s done, it’s done.”
Is his latest run in New Japan one of the things that’s done?
We’ll find out after Sunday’s Tokyo Dome show, I guess.
