Dana Brooke pinned Sasha Banks

WWE’s first live match of 2020 ended in surprising fashion.

2020 kicked off right for fans of WWE’s women’s division. The tag match between a women’s tag Triple Threat between Sasha Banks & Bayley, Lacey Evans & Dana Brooker, and Nikki Cross & Alexa Bliss opened Jan. 3’s SmackDown.

And it got 30 minutes of TV time!

After promos from The Boss ‘N’ Hug Champ Connection and Lacey Evans, all six women got a chance to show off in the three way dance.

It didn’t take a doctorate in WWE booking to see a win for the team of Evans & Brooke coming as a way to continue building toward Lacey challenging Bayley for the SmackDown Women’s title. But at the actual end was designed to raise some eyebrows:

It also looked like Dana landed tailbone to rib cage on The Boss, and announcer Corey Graves wondered about a possible fracture along with the Twitter doctors.

We’ll have to hope for the best there, as we wait for the next beat in the story of The First Lady & her friend vs. Sasha & the champ. In the meantime, the first entry in WWE’s 2020 record book is Brooke pinning the four-time Raw Women’s champ.
