MLW Roundup: Warner vs Havoc with barbed wire, Contra attacks Davey Boy, more!

Let’s catch up on this week’s news in MLW and preview Saturday night’s episode of Fusion. The taped footage from Dallas kicks off tonight with Mance Warner, Jimmy Havoc, and barbed wire on Fusion. LA Park’s return match for Fightland has been set, and Myron Reed will defend his title against another luchador at that same event. Davey Boy Smith Jr. was attacked by Contra at a hockey rink in Canada.

No ropes, barbed wire match on Fusion

Mance Warner and Jimmy Havoc have run the gamut of stipulation matches. They’ve fought with pumpkins, fought with ladders, fought all over Orlando, and fought while wearing black hoods. That’s just a few of their sanctioned matches. There was been a bunch more violence outside that. Now, the two will settle their differences in a ring with no ropes. Barbed wire will surround the ring instead. Expect blood. Lots of it.

Other bouts listed in the show preview are Drago & Puma King vs Taurus & Low Rider vs Injustice and Low Ki vs Chandler Hopkins. The three-way tag bout is to feature AAA talent, and Low Ki’s match is part of his quest to knock fools out.

Who do you think will lose more blood, Mancer Warner of Jimmy Havoc? Which wrestler will steal the match in the tag team three-way? How quickly do you think Low Ki can score a KO?

MLW Fusion airs on beIN SPORTS and PlayStation Vue Saturday nights at 9 pm ET / 6 pm PT. New episodes are posted on YouTube Saturdays at 6:05 pm ET. Fusion is also broadcast in the UK, Ireland, Israel, and Africa.

Fightland

MLW’s next taping will be Fightland in Philadelphia on February 1. A handful of fights were added this week. Here is the Fightland card so far:

  • World Heavyweight Championship: Jacob Fatu vs CIMA
  • Killer Kross vs Tom Lawlor
  • National Openweight Championship: Alexander Hammerstone vs T-Hawk
  • Davey Boy Smith Jr. vs Erick Stevens
  • Brian Pillman Jr. vs Jimmy Havoc (with Priscilla Kelly)
  • Lumberjack Match: LA Park & Hijo de LA Park vs Josef Samael & Simon Gotch
  • World Middleweight Championship: Myron Reed vs Arez
  • Puma King & Gringo Loco vs Kotto Brazil & Jordan Oliver
  • Low Ki vs King Mo
  • Septimo Dragon vs Douglas James

LA Park is not done with the Contra Unit. Despite losing a heavyweight title match to Jacob Fatu at Saturday Night SuperFight, Park is still focused on clashing with Contra. I wouldn’t be surprised if Salina de la Renta has a role in the lumberjack stipulation.

Myron Reed will defend his middleweight belt against Arez. Arez is a young luchador with AAA in Mexico. I was surprised to see his name pop up for MLW, but it is a good move. Arez has the flash for flying, but he also has uniqueness to his style. I think the Philly fans will be impressed. It sounds like MLW CEO Court Bauer is.

Low Ki vs King Mo is billed as seeing who is the king of knockouts. The press release states, “In 2019 Low Ki KO’d 50% of his opponents in MLW. King Mo has KO’d 62% of his opponents throughout his championship career in MMA.”

Quick hits

Contra Unit attacked Davey Boy Smith Jr. at a hockey rink in Canada. Smith has his sights set on the Heavyweight Championship. Winning the Opera Cup has given Smith the momentum he needs to negotiate that bout with MLW. There is also an unsettled account for payback after Contra fireballed Teddy Hart in the face. It looks like Contra sent a physical statement to Smith. MLW teased more details on Fusion.

Injustice has been fined $5,000 for their attack on Brian Pillman Jr. Injustice responded by claiming biased treatment from MLW.

We’ll close with Alexander Hammerstone’s dedication to his craft, his very tan craft.

Due to that dedication, Hammerstone has increased his rate to be booked.

Smart negotiating from Hammer.
