Don’t have time to follow all of AEW’s online content? Don’t worry. We got you covered with the AEW Rewind, which will rewind through social media bits and YouTube videos from the past week to prepare you for Dynamite tonight.
We’ll start with a YouTube exclusive of Fenix versus Joey Janela. Beats me why this wasn’t included on last night’s Dark, especially since that episode was much shorter than usual.
It was a solid bout. Highlights were suicide dives, a rope-hung DDT by Fenix onto the apron, a sitdown cradle driver by Janela, a springboard stunner by Fenix, and a Spanish Fly by Fenix. Fenix was in control for the majority of the match until Janela got him with a cradle driver on the apron. Janela followed up with a corkscrew package piledriver and a flying elbow drop to win.
Yes, that’s correct. Janela won. What the f***! I can’t believe Fenix lost to Janela. That’s a load of sh*t. What a waste of Fenix’s talent. If he had to lose to Janela, at least it could have been important, like a contender match, and not a throwaway on YouTube. If you couldn’t tell, I’m a big fan of Fenix. Going to the rankings released earlier today, Janela should be #5 now instead of Sammy Guevara.
Dynamite is coming to us from a cruise ship. I’m so excited to see the atmosphere of the ‘venue’. The vibe of the show may be cheesy Love Boat if this match teaser is any indication.
It's Dynamite at Sea!

Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford got their wish for a mixed tag bout against Kenny Omega and Riho.
Huge Mixed Tag Team Match signed for the @jericho_cruise @TheKipSabian & @thePenelopeFord vs #AEW Women's World Champ @riho_gtmv and @KennyOmegamanX pic.twitter.com/sRikYtSOdf

I’m glad that match was made, but the clip left me a little confused. Omega is already scheduled to compete with Hangman Page against SCU for the tag team titles. Does that mean the mixed tag will de on Dark? Also, intergender wrestling was mentioned, but the tweet says mixed tag. Does that mean mixed tag with intergender rules or mixed tag with traditional mixed tag rules?
I was thinking it would super awesome if someone got thrown off the cruise ship, assuming it is safe. I wasn’t the only one with that idea.
Depends what you mean by “tossed off”.... https://t.co/eHq4GdXEZe
— Chris Jericho (@IAmJericho) January 17, 2020
As Chris Jericho points out, it would not be safe.
Yeah that would entail literally dying, so no. https://t.co/lqZLqK36l9

MJF has one rule for the cruise.
Currently chilling in first class on my way to Miami to board the Jericho cruise.
— Maxwell Jacob Friedman™️ (@The_MJF) January 19, 2020
Here are all the rules when it comes to engaging with me while we are at sea.
#1 Don’t.
This completes all the rules.
Apparently, that rule is not being followed.
A stranger just asked me “how are you?”
— Maxwell Jacob Friedman™️ (@The_MJF) January 20, 2020
This is gonna be a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong
Cruise.
It wouldn’t be a sea spectacular without a pirate. Jake Hager mocked Jon Moxley’s eye injury.
— Jake Hager (@RealJakeHager) January 17, 2020
Aside from all that, the cruise seems to be a blast. Jericho has announced the dates for next year’s Triple Whammy cruise from February 1 to 5.
Darby Allin is not scheduled to appear tonight on Dynamite, but he has serious words for the next time he does compete in the ring.
Mark my words I’ll end up dead before I take another loss.
— DARBY ALLIN (@DarbyAllin) January 16, 2020
2020 You’ll see I PROMISE. https://t.co/jrUjzOatRS
I don’t want to say I believe him to be literal, but I believe him as close as can be without him actually dying. On Talk is Jericho, Allin mentioned a story of doing a skateboard stunt with two broken ankles. Here is the clip. That shows Allin is crazy enough to die before he loses another match.
The stunt that was talked about on talk is Jericho. That I attempted with two broke ankles.
— DARBY ALLIN (@DarbyAllin) January 17, 2020
And yes it sucked. pic.twitter.com/YC0B0Yfgkg
If I recall correctly, it was his big chance to impress Tony Hawk or a chance to be filmed for a project associated with Hawk. The broken ankles were prior and not a result of the crash.
Road to the Bahamas
AEW’s, “Road to the Bahamas,” features a killer promo from PAC and Jungle Boy speaking about chasing your dream. The PAC promo starts at 2:21 (here). Or just watch the following clip.
“I am well versed & excel in every discipline in professional wrestling. I have competed in over 30 countries, held championships in over 20 across 5 continents everywhere from Madagascar to Alaska” - Pac.

PAC has a reputation of being unprofessional, unreliable, inappropriate, violent, grotesque, and disturbed. He’s never been so flattered, but the question should be why that narrative. PAC sold his soul once before, and it broke him. He won’t let that happen again. PAC is going to get the respect of being the best in the company.
I hate to keep harping on the same idea, but this great promo should be on Dynamite. If not tonight, then AEW is missing the boat terribly on developing PAC’s character. The promo tells you everything you need to know about his motivations for being a bastard.
Being the Elite
“Marty” - Being The Elite, Ep. 187 (here) featured:
- Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks started off with the reveal of who they couldn’t reach on the phone. They teased it was Marty Scurll. The offer was $650,000 a year, executive vice president status, and other perks. The answer was yes. Everyone celebrated until the Bucks realized Kenny wasn’t on the phone with the correct Marty. Turns out Omega made the offer to Marty Jannetty instead. (This scene was a reference to Scurll re-signing with ROH instead of AEW.)
- Hangman Page pulled Omega aside and asked if Omega could change in the same locker room as him, instead of with their four-way opponents the Young Bucks in the Elite’s private room.
- Some guy I don’t know approached Leva Bates to hang out. She made him wear a pair of glasses and hand out books. That guy tried to offer a book to Scorpio Sky. Sky threw the book into the stands. Next up was Joey Janela. He threw the book away as well. Like an jerk, Jerky Janela poured soda on a different book. Since the book idea didn’t work, Leva proposed looking at K-Pop. That dude insulted that idea, so she ditched him.
- Omega was on the phone with Jannetty to fix his error. Shawn Michaels got on the line and ended up chatting Omega’s ear off. To clarify, this was a one-way conversation from the our point of view. Michaels was not actually seen or heard in this episode. Same for Jannetty.
- Luchasaurus had nightmares of CIMA in the ring
- Kris Statlander walked up to Orange Cassidy, who was having trouble opening his water bottle. Statlander offered assistance then opened it with such force that the water spilled all over OC. She smiled, booped his nose, then OC drank.
- Footage of Jon Moxley driving his Ford GT into the arena. Cut to Orange Cassidy hitching a ride to someone else that was driving the car. I couldn’t make out who was the driver.
- Sammy Guevara approached Jenn Decker to be his baby lady. Marko Stunt came up to protect Decker so she could be his. As they were arguing and shushing each other, Decker walked away. Leva Bates walked in and shushed them both.
- Omega finally got Jannetty back on the phone after a 4.5 hour chat with Michaels. Kenny broke the news that he couldn’t make the deal. Jannetty cried, so Omega offered him $1 million instead. The Bucks came back, and Kenny told them of his offer as hush money not to make the company look bad.
We’ll close with Orange Catsidy and our very own Sean Rueter’s perfect GIF reaction.
