NWA & ROH take the next steps in the Nick Aldis/Marty Scurll feud

The build toward a Nick Aldis vs Marty Scurll showdown continues with the next steps toward hopefully the larger fight.

To sum up past events, Scurll showed up unannounced on NWA grounds, so Aldis did the same at a pair of ROH shows. That led to Aldis issuing a challenge to Villain Enterprises member Flip Gordon for NWA’s Hard Times PPV on Friday, January 24. Based on Aldis’ penchant for protecting the mystique of the Worlds Heavyweight Championship, I assume it will be a non-title affair.

NWA announced that Scurll will be making an appearance for the Powerrr tapings on Sunday, January 26.

In response, Aldis will be appearing at ROH’s free show, Free Enterprise, on February 9. Free refers to ticket prices. I’m not sure about outside viewing access. In addition, Aldis is rallying NWA fans to wear their colors in a call to action to flood the stands.

Now, after a wild weekend which saw The National Treasure crashed ROH shows in Atlanta on Saturday, then Villain Enterprises called him out the next night in North Carolina, the Free Enterprise main event has been set. Aldis and Scurll will be in the ring against one another, albeit in tag team action. Scurll will partner with PCO, while Aldis will partner with Rush.

This is an interesting turn of events to extend the feud. Many assumed Aldis would defend the Ten Pounds of Gold against Scurll at Hard Times. It was also assumed that Aldis would successfully retain as Scurll bides his time to appear in AEW. That was before Scurll re-signed a fat deal with ROH.

Now, throw all assumptions out the window. Scurll could very well win NWA’s top prize when they eventually wrestle and turn this into a very lengthy interpromotional feud. Aldis has his own faction with Thom Latimer, Royce Isaacs, and Kamille in Strictly Business. They can compete with Villain Enterprises in any number of match variations. Heck, what if Aldis dethroned PCO to become ROH World Champion. The possibilities are endless. And that’s not even taking into account Rush and his Ingobernables faction with Kenny King and Dragon Lee. They are feuding with Villain Enterprises as well. Perhaps they eventually make it three-way faction warfare.

NWA and ROH may just have something here to stoke the fire for both promotions. I know I’m excited.

Would you like to see an epic feud between Strictly Business, Villain Enterprises, and Los Ingobernables? Or would you prefer to keep it simple with Aldis defending against Scurll at an NWA PPV and leave it at that?

Update: Rush is not pleased about tagging with Nick Aldis at Free Enterprise.
