AEW Rankings: Spanish Sex God rises, Rhodes Bros robbed

AEW released their latest rankings (Jan. 15, 2020). Let’s check out the movers and shakers.

Men:

AEW

Sammy Guevara replaced MJF as #5. The rest is the same as last week. Since Cody Rhodes can’t compete for the AEW World Championship, it would be cool to see Sammy continue to rack up wins and face off against Cody. Cody will need to lose eventually. Give the rub to the Spanish Sex God.

Women:

AEW

Kris Statlander’s loss last week to Riho in a title bout dropped her from #1 to #3. Hikaru Shida and Nyla Rose moved up one spot accordingly. Awesome Kong and Britt Baker remain steady.

Rose had a chance to move up to #1, but her match with Shanna on Dark was a no contest. They beat the stuffing out of each other before the opening bell. Shanna speared Rose through a table, so the match was called off.

Tag Team:

AEW

Kenny Omega and Hangman Page cracked the top 5 for the first time at #4. Lucha Bros dropped from #3 to #5 with their loss to the Rhodes Bros on Dynamite. Best Friends moved up one spot, and Dark Order got the boot from #5. The top four teams will square off tonight on Dynamite in a four-way contest. The winner will earn a title shot against SCU.

AEW made a major misstep in this week’s tag team rankings calculations. It is a new year. The records were reset, and the core order was maintained. That means everyone started fresh, but it allowed AEW a reason to explain why 0-0 records are ranked.

My issue is that the Rhodes Bros were robbed in this week’s rankings after beating the Lucha Bros clean in the ring last week. If both teams only have one match so far this year and it is head to head, then how can the losing team be ranked over the winning team? That’s pure poppycock.

The Rhodes Bros should be #5, and the Lucha Bros should be out. It doesn’t matter if the Rhodes Bros won’t tag again for a long time. Inactivity by the Rhodes Bros and wins by the Lucha Bros, or some other team, would rectify that situation.

Do you agree with AEW’s rankings this week? If not, what would you change?
