The teams for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic were revealed tonight (Jan. 1) during NXT’s 2019 recap show.
Worlds Collide is the NXT show Royal Rumble weekend, pitting NXT vs. NXT UK against each other. The Dusty this year feeds into that theme with what looks like a UK side of the bracket and a NXT Prime side that will meet in the finals. While it hasn’t been announced, I’d assume that will take place at Worlds Collide

A couple things that stick out just off the bat:
- Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne make a weird team. The laid back Bro and the tough Bruiserweight are quite the odd couple. Plus, Dunne doesn’t have a good history of teaming with someone random in the Dusty.
- Kushida has a MYSTERY PARTNER! While there’s plenty of folks that can slot in, his former Time Splitter partner Alex Shelley has done some guest training at the Performance Center. I know Shelley was recently seen working ROH, but their contracts are notoriously short nowadays.
- Breezango would have fit in here, but unfortunately Fandango recently underwent Tommy John surgery. That may be the reason a makeshift team like Dunne & Riddle are in it.
- It makes sense that they want to feature their current NXT UK tag scene, but it’s a bit of a bummer that Mustache Mountain isn’t in it.
The Dusty kicks off early in 2020. Let us know your thoughts of the field, who you think could team with Kushida, and who could win the entire thing?
Update:
The Bracket has been released. It will not be UK one one side and NXT on another as they’ll face off against each other in the first round. So feasibly it could be NXT vs. NXT or UK vs. UK in the finals, but it probably won’t be.
