There’s not a whole lot in the way of news from the latest edition of The Road To AEW On TNT.
There’s really good build for Sammy Guevara, and his match against Cody Rhodes on the Oct. 2 premiere. It’s a little reminiscent of Cody’s feud with Shawn Spears (where the veteran Spears was pissed Rhodes referred to him as a “good hand”, Sammy has a chip on his shoulder about All Elite brass saying he has “potential”). But in addition to being a huge opportunity for Guevara, this story adds in the pressure of being the first match on TNT in roughly 20 years, and essentially puts Full Gear’s title match on the line for Cody since wins and losses matter.
From the Control Center, Tony Schiavone reminds us that the first episode from Washington, D.C. on Weds., Oct. 2 also has the Women’s title match. He then recaps the issues between Bea Priestley and Britt Baker, giving the impression the winner of a singles match between them could determine the first challenger for either Nyla Rose or Riho.
Then Schiavone sits down with Rhodes for more talk of history, expectations & pressure, wins & losses, his planned PPV World championship match against Chris Jericho, and listening to fans. Prompted by that last notion, Cody asks Tony if he’ll be calling matches with Jim Ross when television starts. The veteran voice says that’s up Rhodes, since he’s the boss.
In response, the Executive Vice-President calls for a close-up and gives his signature wink.
