Evolve 133 & 134 previews: Drew Gulak defends the Cruiserweight Championship!

Evolve 133 poster World Wrestling Network

It’s Evolve time again, folks! The World Wrestling Network’s premier promotion is coming to Livonia, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois this month, and since I’m a little pressed for time (moving next week for the second time in three months, yay!), we’re gonna skip our usual format and do the ol’ list ‘em out and break ‘em down gimmick, so... on with the show!

Evolve 133 (Saturday, Aug. 24, 8PM Eastern)

  • Cyrus & Mongo vs. the Skulk (Adrian Alanis & Liam Gray)
  • Camron Bra’Nae vs. Shotzi Blackheart
  • Arturo Ruas vs. Stephen Wolf
  • Anthony “Sharkbait” Gutierrez vs. Karam (Winner Gets an Evolve Contract)
  • Anthony Greene vs. Curt Stallion
  • Anthony Henry vs. Austin Theory
  • JD Drake vs. KUSHIDA
  • Josh Briggs vs. Matt Riddle
  • The Skulk (AR Fox & Leon Ruff) (c) vs. the Unwanted (Joe Gacy & Sean Maluta) (Evolve Tag Team Championship)

Evolve 134 (Sunday, Aug. 25, 8PM Central)

  • Anthony Greene vs. PACO
  • Besties in the World (Davey Vega & Mat Fitchett) vs. the Skulk (Adrian Alanis & Liam Gray)
  • Brandi Lauren vs. Shotzi Blackheart (Kendo Stick Match)
  • Anthony Henry vs. Arturo Ruas (No Holds Barred Match)
  • Curt Stallion & Matt Riddle vs. the Skulk (AR Fox & Leon Ruff) (c) (Evolve Tag Team Championship)
  • Austin Theory (c) vs. JD Drake vs. Josh Briggs (Evolve World Championship)
  • Drew Gulak (c) vs. KUSHIDA (WWE Cruiserweight Championship)

As always we’ll start big... KUSHIDA is coming to Evolve! He’s a man I’ve wanted to see under the banner of the purple atom for a long, long time now and while my personal number one dream match for him, against Anthony Henry, isn’t happening this month, his matches against JD Drake and no less than Drew by God Gulak should be incredible all the same!

And thinking of Mr. Henry, he’s got an exciting weekend lined up himself, with a pair of rematches— a non-title bout against the Evolve World Champion, Austin Theory, in which he has a chance to soften the new NXT signing up before his pal Drake gets him in three-way action on Sunday, and a No Holds Barred rematch against Brazilian sensation Arturo Ruas that is, honestly, my early pick for match of the weekend.

Josh Briggs is also in that three-way Evolve title match, and he’s got a chance to prove himself the night before against the King of Bros! For his part, Riddle will be occupying himself with a tag title match alongside his protege Curt Stallion, should Fox and Ruff successfully fend off a new combination of the Unwanted tonight, all of which should be quite exciting in the Evolve tag team tradition.

Plus the women’s division is heating up as Blackheart and Lauren go at it in a match where kendo sticks are legal, Sharkbait has a chance to earn an Evolve contract after tearing the house down with Steven Pena back in June, and we’ve got an undercard peppered with up-and-coming midwesterners from the Besties to PACO to GPA to Craig Mitchell and beyond!

There you have it, folks
