AAA’s Triplemania XXVII is rapidly approaching. Blue Demon Jr. and Dr. Wagner Jr. will be the main event in mask vs hair on Saturday, August 3. This match is three years in the making, while the rivalry spans over 50 years back to their fathers. Blue Demon Jr. was aiming for mask vs mask against Dr. Wagner Jr. at Triplemania XXV, but Wagner already had a date set for mask vs mask against Psycho Clown. The time has finally come to find out who is the better luchador on lucha libre’s grandest stage.
To hype the fight, AAA released exclusive footage of Blue Demon Jr. training. He traveled to the town of Temoaya on the outskirts of Mexico City. It is reminiscent of Rocky IV outdoors and also has an iconic running up stairs moment.
Man, poor camera dude. With all that huffing and puffing, it doesn’t sound like he knew what was in store when he woke up that morning.
Blue Demon had a simple message for Wagner.
Wagner, Rey Wagner, however you want to call yourself. I am preparing here. I am in Temoaya at the Centro Ceremonial Otomí. Because you are not going to humiliate me. You are not going to win. I will continue waiting for August 3 to see face to face who is the best. Prepare yourself.
Blue Demon is raring to go.
Wagner, I am physically ready. I am mentally ready. I am technically (wrestling) ready. We’ll see each other August 3, Triplemania XXVII. You and me.
I have two takeaways from Blue Demon’s exclusive footage. First, a training montage will always pump me up. Bring it on! Second, Temoaya’s weather must vary drastically by the minute. Blue Demon had quite the wardrobe shift. He started with a track suit to wearing a wool hat for sledgehammering tires to wearing an oxygen mask while running to shirtless for battle rope exercises to finish wearing a vest.
In addition to the training footage, there is an interesting video produced by Diario RÉCORD profiling the two legends before their epic clash. The video is in Spanish. If you don’t understand Spanish, you can still watch to enjoy the images, scenery, and hilarious heeling by Blue Demon at the 11 minute mark. After Silver King’s death, Wagner had a tribute to his brother. Blue Demon led the crowd in a chant then wallopped Wagner over the head with a huge framed picture of Silver King.
