Stardom Weekly #9 - Setting the Stage

Note: This post contains match results for the 8/10 show in Korakuen Hall

Hey, all. Another week, another show uploaded – this one a bigger one from Stardom’s MSG, Korakuen Hall. It was a phenomenal show, highlighted by a couple debuts, a title change, and yet another White Belt classic. I’ll touch on some of the results going through my 3 stars of the week, and of course, let us not forget that the 5* Grand Prix is upon us. A lot of good wrestling lies ahead in the next month-plus, so send all of your thoughts and prayers to our StardomAdmin for the heavy lifting he will have to do to keep us all up to date. I thoroughly enjoyed the passing around of the microphone to hype up the tournament that took place in Korakuen after the World of Stardom Championship match. I’m beyond excited, especially, for AZM, whose fearlessness and confidence continues to blow me away, as she was announced to be entering the tournament for the first time. We are going to have a great time watching this, folks, and I know who I’m pulling for – who y’all got?

Three Stars

First Star: Arisa Hoshiki – Arisa added another high quality match (and successful title defense) to her record in defeating Jungle Kyona to retain the Wonder of Stardom Championship. I’ve said it before, and it only gets truer by the day – I have not seen a woman in any of the promotions I watch match or exceed Arisa’s body of in-ring work in 2019. And to be honest, it’s not particularly close.

Second Star: Riho – Making her Stardom debut in Korakuen Hall, Riho showed in the High Speed Championship match that she is already one of Stardom’s best performers, and certainly surprised this author in successfully winning that title by pinning Starlight Kid. Everything she did in this match just felt crisp. She is substantially more experienced than most of the roster, with 855 career matches under her belt, having started wrestling at the humble age of 9. She is a great addition and didn’t need more than 8 minutes to prove it.

Third Star: Saya Kamitani – Would you believe how good this kid looked in her professional wrestling debut match against Momo Watanabe? From the moment she made her (really cool and fun) entrance, you could feel her considerable energy. She also could’ve fooled me into thinking she was a seasoned vet out there. Not only did she put on one of the better opening matches in recent months with Momo, but she made me invested everything she did. I look forward to following this young lady’s career.

So there are some of my thoughts on the past week in World Wonder Ring Stardom – feel free to use this a place to sound off on anything your heart desires related to the promotion.
