How to watch G1 Climax 29 Dallas and beyond

AXS.tv

Ok, so you’ve seen the line-up, picked out the matches you’re most hyped for, even caught up on the history of the tournament - now how can you watch New Japan’s G1 Climax?

Opening night is tonight (Sat., July 6) from Dallas’ American Airlines Center, and it’s a little different from the other 18(!) nights of G1 Climax action. Partly that’s because it’s the first time any tournament matches are happening in the United States, and partly because AXS TV has exclusive live broadcast rights here in the U.S.

Find out if you can get AXS from your cable or satellite provider here. The action starts at 6PM Eastern, and we’ll have a live results post here.

Opening night will be available on NJPWWorld, New Japan’s subscription streaming service, after it broadcasts live on AXS. While AXS will have “same day live” coverage (airing at 9PM Eastern the night after it happens live Japanese time) of the remaining Saturday shows in this year’s G1 Climax, the only way to get watch every show as it happens is with NJPWWorld. You can sign-up here. At the current conversion rate, it will cost you $9.21 per month for a subscription.

We’ll have results posts and updated Block Standings for each show. The G1 has a round robin format, and each competitor will face every other member of their block. The winner of each match receives two points. One point is awarded to each wrestler in a time-limit draw. Whoever loses the match gets no points. At the end of the round robin block matches, the man with the most points from A Block will face the man with the most points from B Block in the finals. The winner of that match earns the right to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight title at Wrestle Kingdom 14 in the Tokyo Dome next Jan. 4. Should current titleholder Kazuchika Okada win, he will be allowed to choose his challenger for that event.

Here’s the line-up of block matches for each night of the tournament. Cards are traditionally filled out with tag matches featuring wrestlers from the opposite block, and action from roster members not in the tournament.
