MLW Roundup: Mance Warner fighting a gremlin, Davey Boy family scandal, Spirit Squad signed, more!

Let’s catch up on this week’s news in MLW and preview Saturday night’s episode of Fusion. The Von Erichs tackle the Contra Unit in unsanctioned warfare, Mance Warner will be fighting a gremlin, Davey Boy Smith’s sister appears to be caught up in a shocking scandal, and the Spirit Squad has joined MLW.

Ole Mancer is going to kill a gremlin

Saturday night’s episode of MLW Fusion has four fights on the slate.

  • Unsanctioned Match: The Von Erichs vs. Contra Unit
  • Mexican Death Match for the Battle Riot ticket: Mance Warner vs. Bestia 666
  • Low Ki vs. Ricky “El Sicario” Martinez
  • Gringo Loco vs. Zenshi

The Von Erich brothers will continue their war against the Contra Unit in tag action against Simon Gotch and Josef Samael. The Von Erichs, along with Tom Lawlor in trios action, were the first to be victorious over Contra. No doubt Contra will up the aggression for payback.

As awesome as the Von Erich/Contra fight should be, I’m more excited to see Bestia 666 attempt to take back LA Park’s golden ticket from the hands of Mance Warner. Salina de la Renta summoned a devil gremlin last week, and Mance Warner is ready to kill it this week. I don’t know what makes a Mexican Death Match different from a regular Death Match. Will there be tequila instead of light beer?

Ricky Martinez wants a chance to redeem himself against Low Ki after being knocked out cold in their previous clash. With four fights on the show, I’m predicting a quick victory for Low Ki as he continues his knock-out streak.

The preview also teases promos from Konnan, Salina de la Renta, Kotto Brazil, and Tom Lawlor.

MLW Fusion airs on beIN SPORTS and PlayStation Vue Saturday nights at 9 pm ET / 6 pm PT. New episodes are posted on YouTube Mondays at 7 pm ET. Fusion is also broadcast in the UK, Ireland, Israel, and Africa.

Fusion fallout

Stop the presses. Kaci Lennox posted this scandalous scoop involving Alexander Hammerstone and Georgia Smith. Watch until the very end to see a little hanky panky.

Man, that is disappointing from Georgia. Her brother, Davey Boy Smith Jr., is right in the thick of a feud with the dastardly Dynasty. How could she? I hope she’s at least having her cookie and eating it too by giving intel to the Hart Foundation.

Side note: Alexander Hammerstone is great to follow on Twitter with things like an epic highlight package video from his match with Davey Boy Smith Jr., unique promos, big man humor, jokes about carrying the company on his back, trying to get Richard Holliday to watch Fight Club, and even entering the Hallmark business.

Salina de la Renta is offering a $1,000 reward to retrieve her phone from Konnan. She may need to up that offer to get results. Also, enjoy this color photo of Salina being a witch from last week. The super dope video segment was edited by Leo Artajo.

Never Say Never full card

MLW

Never Say Never took place Thursday, but let’s look at what to expect for future Fusion episodes next month. Don’t worry. No spoilers are ahead.

The full card as advertised was:

  • Heavyweight Championship: Jacob Fatu vs Tom Lawlor
  • Middleweight Championship: Teddy Hart vs MJF
  • National Openweight Championship: Alexander Hammerstone vs Savio Vega
  • Grapple in the Big Apple: Davey Boy Smith Jr. vs Timothy Thatcher
  • LA Park vs Jimmy Havoc
  • Austin Aries vs Ace Austin
  • Bestia 666 vs Rey Horus
  • Brian Pillman Jr. vs Richard Holliday
  • Low Ki vs Jimmy Yuta
  • Zenshi vs Hijo de LA Park
  • Mance Warner vs Ricky Martinez
  • Zenshi, Gringo Loco, & Air Wolf vs Myron Reed, Kotto Brazil, & Jordan Oliver

That trios match at the bottom of the list was announced shortly before the show. Kotto Brazil complained last week about referee bias, and now he’s tagging with hooligans. The story last week with Brazil seemed odd. I wonder if Rich Swann had to exit for awhile, so they pushed Brazil into Swann’s spot. Whatever the case, that new trio will go by the name Injustice.

Picture time from Never Say Never. Check out the merch table with Von Erich foam Iron Claw hands and Mance Warner beer koozies.

Teddy Hart’s cat, Mr. Velvet, was in the house.

I’ll never pass up a Mance Warner promo. Warning: Language not suitable for work.

Quick hits

In MLW’s most effervescent signing to date, the Spirit Squad has joined the promotion. Yes, you read that right. The MF-ing Spirit Squad. The male cheerleader squad from the mid-2000’s in WWE is getting the band back together in the form of Kenn Doane and Mike Mondo. Prepare to be annoyed with jubilant jesting. Seriously though, I am curious to see what the Spirit Squad has to offer and how they fit in on today’s scene.

If you missed the news from Friday, MLW has formed an alliance with Japan’s Pro Wrestling NOAH. It will start with MLW sending a wrestler to participate in the 2019 N-1 Victory tour during August. Minoru Tanaka is scheduled to return to MLW in Fall.

Speaking of Japan, the Contra Unit has been spotted there. The press release mentions, “Mysterious business meetings in Pulau Ujong, a spotting of the trio socializing at pit fights in the slums of Shanghai while fraternizing with feared men in the criminal underworld of Bangladesh only to be spotted in Japan just yesterday.” The first question that popped into my mind is if Contra could be forming a splinter faction to invade NOAH. It reminds me of Masahiro Chono in the NWO.

Teddy Hart offered to donate an inherited family heirloom to MLW. Details are scarce at the moment. I hope it is a seven foot tall cat statue wearing a wrestling singlet.

We’ll close with this tweet from Richard Holliday and the soothing snores of Alexander Hammerstone.

Dynasty, bro.
