New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) are back again and we’re onto our last big show before the G1 Climax. After this, it’s just a month of Kizuna Road shows before we start the grind to Wrestle Kingdom 13. Like all of New Japan’s other major events, the show will be broadcast worldwide on New Japan's streaming service, NJPW World.
We'll have the standard match recommendation post later for those of us who can’t be up in the wee hours watching wrestling, but if you can, why not watch along with the best pro wrestling community on the internet?
Today’s action takes place in Osaka's Osaka-Jo Hall, kicking off at a ripe 3AM Eastern / 12AM Pacific, and features a slam-bang double main event of Kazuchika Okada defending his IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Chris Jericho and Kota Ibushi putting the IWGP Intercontinental Championship on the line against former champ Tetsuya Naito.
Plus Dragon Lee defends the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship against Best of the Super Jr. 26 winner Will Ospreay, newly crowned IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley gets to give Young Lion Shota Umino a beating, Shingo Takagi wrestles his first match as an openweight against the leader of Bread Club, Satoshi Kojima, and more!
Jon Moxley over Shota Umino by pinfall with Dirty Deeds.
Post-match, Mox cut a promo and declared his intent to join the G1 Climax field this year!
Shingo Takagi over Satoshi Kojima by pinfall with Last of the Dragon.
Post-match, Shingo also cut a promo where he said he wants in the G1 Climax!
Jushin Liger & YOSHI-HASHI over Suzuki-gun (Minoru Suzuki & Zack Sabre, Jr.) by pinfall with La Casita from Tacos on Sabre.
Hiroshi Tanahashi, Juice Robinson, & Ryusuke Taguchi over Bullet Club (Chase Owens, “Switchblade” Jay White, & Taiji Ishimori) by pinfall with an inverted bulldog headlock elbow drop from Tanahashi on Owens.
Tomohiro Ishii over Taichi (c) by pinfall with the vertical drop brainbuster to win the NEVER Openweight Championship.
Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) (c) over Los Ingobernables de Japon (EVIL & SANADA) by pinfall with a schoolboy pin from Tonga on EVIL to retain the IWGP Tag Team Championship.
Katsuyori Shibata came out and KENTA followed, and the erstwhile Hideo Itami declared his intent for the G1 Climax.
Will Ospreay over Dragon Lee (c) by pinfall with Storm Breaker to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship.
Tetsuya Naito over Kota Ibushi (c) by pinfall with Destino to win the IWGP Intercontinental Championship.
Kazuchika Okada (c) over Chris Jericho by pinfall with a rana pin as a counter to retain the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.
Post-match Jericho attacks Okada and beats him down with a steel chair! He follows it up with the Judas Effect before setting the chair up and taking a seat above the fallen Rainmaker briefly. Horse-collaring Okada with the chair, he rams him into the post and goes to powerbomb him into a table set up at ringside...
HIROSHI TANAHASHI MAKES THE SAVE! Y2J gets on the mic and says he’s the greatest of all time, even in the bullshit country of Japan and vows that he’ll see Okada later before wishing him, “Happy championship, bitch!”
Enjoy the show!
