AAA Verano de Escándalo full card announced: Young Bucks vs Lucha Bros rematch, more!

Fresh off the, “absolutely insane and non stop,” action of the Young Bucks defending the AAA tag team titles against the Lucha Bros at AEW’s Double or Nothing, AAA has announced they will run it back for Verano de Escándalo on Sunday, June 16.

The Young Bucks won the AAA tag belts at Rey de Reyes back in March when they made a surprise appearance to challenge Fenix and Pentagon immediately after they dethroned long-time champs Texano and Rey Escorpion.

A championship change in Las Vegas at a non-AAA show would have felt odd. Now, we will get a chance to see if the Young Bucks will be more than token title holders. It would seem likely that the Lucha Bros will win in Mexico, but not so fast. They are not around that often for AAA. If the Lucha Bros are mostly appearing only at the major events, well, the Young Bucks could keep the titles and do the same for AAA with the AEW talent partnership. So, that wouldn’t be a reason to guarantee a title switch.

Plus, Fenix currently holds the AAA Megacampeonato. It is never safe to assume with AAA, but shouldn’t Fenix have to defend at the biggest lucha libre event of the year for Triplemania XXVII in August? I don’t believe Fenix has defended once (partly due to injury) since he won the belt at last year’s Triplemania.

That said, perhaps the Lucha Bros win the tag titles, Fenix defends his Megacampeonato at Triplemania, Pentagon gets his wish of wrestling Cain Velasquez at Triplemania, and the tag titles collect dust for a while.

The lucha libre world of AAA can be a crazy place.

Take a look at the poster with the full card for Verano de Escándalo.

Lucha Libre AAA
  • Dr. Wagner Jr. & Psycho Clown vs Blue Demon Jr. & Taurus
  • Tag Team Championship: Young Bucks vs Lucha Bros
  • No Disqualification: La Parka, Myzteziz Jr., Hijo del Vikingo vs Texano, Rey Escorpion, La Hiedra
  • Pagano, Aerostar, Puma King vs Chessman, Monster Clown, Killer Kross (with Scarlett Bordeaux)
  • Laredo Kid & Taya vs Daga & Tessa Blanchard
  • Maximo & Mamba vs Sammy Guevara & Australian Suicide
  • Faby Apache vs Hijo del Tirantes
  • Keyra vs Lady Shani vs Chik Tormenta

A couple of quick things that stick out to me are La Hiedra in intergender action as a member of Los Mercenarios, Faby Apache getting her hands on her nemesis referee Hijo del Tirantes, and Daga teaming with Tessa Blanchard to battle Taya. I hope that mixed tag bout leads to the return of Johnny Mundo to AAA, possibly at AAA’s Madison Square Garden show on September 15.

Do you think the Lucha Bros regaining AAA tag gold is a foregone conclusion? Which matches are you most looking forward to?
