AEW reveals plan to crown their first World champion

New, comments

This may have been the plan all along, but in light of losing the Pac vs. Hangman Page match from Double Or Nothing’s card this Saturday (May 25), it’s good timing for a big announcement.

On the final episode of Cody Rhodes’ The Road To Double Or Nothing YouTube series (embedded above), we learn that the winner of Casino Battle Royal on The Buy In pre-show will face the winner of the pay-per-view (PPV) main event between Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho for the new AEW World title.

We almost get to see the new belt, but comedian Jack Whitehall doesn’t know how drawstrings work...

AEW brass don’t shy away from bold claims in this video. President & CEO Tony Khan boasts, “Double Or Nothing might be one of the greatest PPVs in wrestling history.” Chief Brand Officer Brandi Rhodes says, “I feel like if you’re not satisfied at the end of Double Or Nothing, you’re not a wrestling fan.”

Will it live up to that hype?

We’ll find out Saturday night.
