Per multiple sources, Ric Flair is undergoing a heart operation today (May 20) in Atlanta. While there hasn’t been any news yet on the type or outcome of that surgery, or his post-op prognosis, TMZ is reporting - and Wrestling Observer is confirming - the Nature Boy will not take part in his planned appearances at the Starrcast II convention taking place in Las Vegas this weekend.
Naitch was scheduled to appear Thurs., May 23 on a Jim Ross-moderated panel with Ricky Steamboat to talk about their historic trilogy of matches from 1989. A Roast of Flair was set for Friday, and being sold as a standalone pay-per-view (PPV) event by Fite. He was also set for Meet & Greets throughout the weekend-long event. It doesn’t look like any of those will be happening, since Flair’s people are saying he won’t be cleared to travel from Atlanta to Vegas after today’s procedure.
The story of Ric’s health began with a TMZ report last Thursday which claimed he was rushed to the emergency room. Flair’s son-in-law, and Starrcast’s promoter, Conrad Thompson then said it was a planned surgery. Word came out the following day that the operation had been postponed until today while doctors worked to address “complications”.
More as we have it, and in the meantime, join us in wishing the best to Flair and his family as he faces this latest challenge.
