Welcome back to the Sermon on the Mat, your weekly one-stop shop for news from the wider world of wrestling beyond the big cable TV monoliths that get all the coverage.

Coming soon...

CMLL Super Viernes (May 3, 9:30PM Eastern)

  1. Akuma & Grako vs. Magnus & Oro, Jr.
  2. Amapola, Dalys, & Reyna Isis vs. Avispa Dorada, Kaho Kobayashi, & La Jarochita

  6. Caristico, El Valiente, & Volador, Jr. vs. Los Ingobernables (Bestia del Ring, El Terrible, & Rush)

CMLL are back with your regular weekly Friday night dose of lucha libre action from the legendary Arena Mexico and... this week’s is a solid show. Lightning match and the top two trios should be cool, and the idea of an interpromotional match against the Crash is interesting even if the participants aren’t exactly blowing me out of the water here.

Check it out, as always, free for nothin’ on Marca Claro, folks, and the VOD will go up on CMLL’s YouTube channel (where they also stream shows every Monday and Tuesday free of charge) after the fact for those of you who can’t watch live.

Brandon Thurston vs. Jay Freddie

You read me praising it to high heaven in my recap of last week’s Uncharted Territory, now watch it for yourself! Buffalo boys Freddie and Thurston tore the house down in a match that ranged from excellent technical grappling to pyrotechnical high spots, don’t miss it!

At 51 years old, PCO has major gold once again! Shame Bram had to be involved, but that’s pro wrestling for you. Plus two new singles champs and there’s been a lot of praise flying around for Aldis’ bloody main event title defense, in the finest NWA tradition. Now, when can we get this year’s winners against my boys the WorkHorsemen who won last year’s Crockett Cup that PWX hosted?

Check the VOD out on HonorClub and FITE, folks.

As always...

Remember folks, no matter what type of wrestling you like, no matter how down you feel about the state of WWE, Impact, ROH, or any other “big-time” pro wrestling, there’s something out there for you. There’s a pro wrestling product that can hit you in the right spot and make you love wrestling like you thought you’d never be able to love it again. It’s there, I promise. You just gotta reach out and find it, and that, my friends, is what the Sermon on the Mat is all about.
