Ratings are a little delayed due to the holiday, but they still brought good tidings for FS1’s WWE Backstage.
In lieu of touting a big guest interview or an appearance by irregular contributor CM Punk, the Renee Young-hosted show’s hook on Tues., Dec. 24 was the announcement of Year-End Awards for Raw & SmackDown (you can find the results here). That proved to be a draw, even on Christmas Eve.
WWE Backstage had its second biggest audience ever this week. 153,000 people tuned in at 11 p.m. Eastern, 58K more than the week prior. It was also 26K more than Punk’s last appearance on Dec. 10. The show’s best ever viewership number was Nov. 19, his first announced stint as a panelist.
Ratings-wise, the number was the unchanged. Backstage drew a .05 from the 18-49 year old demographic for the second straight week.
We’ll see if a similar gimmick works next week, when Young, Booker T & the crew reveal the Top 5 matches of the year (WWE Network has one of Renee’s rotating team of co-hosts, Paige, unveiling a Top 10 of 2019 on Monday - no word on if these will be the same list).
