AEW Rankings (Dec. 25, 2019): Kris Statlander rockets to the top

AEW released their latest rankings (Dec. 25, 2019). Let’s check out the movers and shakers.

If you missed the news, AEW will now release rankings on Wednesday mornings at 9 am ET. It is presumably to avoid confusion by counting Dark matches before the show airs. This also might be the last rankings with these records as they will be reset in January.

No changes for the third week in a row.

Kris Statlander swapped spots with Britt Baker due to her head-to-head victory on the last episode of Dynamite. Statlander has earned a title shot against Riho on January 1.

Tag Team:

Santana & Ortiz and the Young Bucks swapped spots. Santana & Ortiz won a four-way on Dark, while the Young Bucks lost a championship bout clean against SCU. The Lucha Bros and Best Friends swapped spots. Fenix and Pentagon defeated Kenny Omega and Hangman Page on Dynamite. Best Friends were one of the losing teams in that Dark four-way.

Not a lot of movement this week, as to be expected. One idea I think AEW should consider is dumping a team when they lose in a title bout. The Young Bucks lost to SCU and now they are #2. In theory, they don’t need to do much to earn another championship opportunity. By removing them, two story points could be created. First, they could have the journey of working back to the top spot. Second, it would alleviate any complications about not wanting the Young Bucks to lose again so soon while also freeing up space for another team to rise.

Do you agree with AEW’s rankings this week? If not, what would you change?
