One of the most unique products for sale in wrestling history is when AEW and Chris Jericho teamed with Nocking Point to create an official A Little Bit of the Bubbly sparkling wine. It is a libation suitable for Le Champion, but is it suitable for a certified sommelier?
Brian Zane of, “Wrestling with Wregret,” decided to find out by inviting Dave Grayden in for a taste test.
The beverage passed the sight test. No sediment floating and the bubbles rose straight up. A fruit aroma passed the smell test. For the taste test, Grayden explained that it was pretty smooth with a drier finish and notes of minerality from Washington soil. There was a bright lemony flavor with tart pear. Recommended food pairings are oysters and shrimp ceviche.
Hmm, sounds sophisticated. The extent of my wine judgement is if it causes me to make a sourpuss face. Even if it does, I’ll still finish the bottle.
The most important question is if A Little Bit of the Bubbly is worth the cost. Grayden believes that it is. He advises to know what you like and what you don’t in a wine. If you like it, then the $23 cost per bottle is worth it.
A Little Bit of the Bubbly appears to be a success for Le Champion and Nocking Point with over 16,000 bottles sold. That’s very cool that everyone involved took the product seriously instead of slapping a fancy label on a bottle of swill. Thank you, Chris Jericho.
A Little Bit of the Bubbly is still available for sale (here).
Fun fact: The video taught me that the goal when opening bubbly bottles is for it to sound like a nun’s fart.
Have any Cagesiders tried the sparkling wine yet? If so, does it pass your grade?
