The New Day (c) vs. The Revival
SmackDown Tag Team Championship Ladder Match
The road to TLC
Since winning their fifth SmackDown tag championships New Day hasn’t had much to do. An evergreen sentiment when it comes to tag team wrestling on the main roster it seems. Following their loss to Team Raw at Survivor Series they issued an open challenge for their titles that was answered by Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro. While it was an excellent match, Cesaro is canonically not allowed to win in WWE, so New Day retained.
As such, New Day had no clear challengers and a number one contender scramble was announced featuring Lucha House Party, The Revival, Shorty G & Mustafa Ali and Heavy Machinery. Shorty G & Mustafa Ali almost eeked out the win - which would have led to an exciting new feud for New Day - but, of course, The Revival through nefarious means got the W and secured their slot for Tables, Ladders & Chairs.
What’s at stake?
Not much. Sure, the tag titles are on the line, but since they are basically an after thought what does having the gold really mean. Don’t get me wrong, the match will be excellent. Both teams are fantastic and the addition of ladders will up the craziness even more, but it doesn’t really matter who wins. If New Day retains we still get to have fun, pancake silly time. If Revival wins then they have another chance to try and get over until inevitably The New Day wins it back from them. The cycle continues.
