MJF throws in the towel for Cody Rhodes in AEW title match at Full Gear, turns on him post-match

One of the top matches on the card at tonight’s (Sat., Nov. 9, 2019) AEW Full Gear pay-per-view (PPV) from Baltimore featured Cody Rhodes challenging Chris Jericho for the AEW world championship in a 60-minute time limit match featuring a panel of judges there to decide it in the event it went to that time limit. Dean Malenko, Arn Anderson, and The Great Muta were called in to be those judges.

One might think that would ensure the two would go the full 60, just to fulfill the gimmick.

One would be wrong.

The match was relatively slow paced, making it seem as though they could go the full 60 but instead, after a hard hitting affair, MJF saw Cody, who was already bloodied from a bad cut on his forehead, in the Walls of Jericho and threw in the towel.

This with the stipulation that Cody won’t challenge for the title again if he lost this match.

MJF acted heartbroken about it, nearly breaking down in tears, but it ended up being a set up for the swerve: Cody lifted him up to let him know it was all okay, and MJF hit him with a nut shot.

Oh, the betrayal.

Either way, Jericho is still AEW world champion and Cody has his next feud, with MJF, who was doused with beer by a fan on the way out.
