AAA Lucha Capital, Episode 5: Wild night with a rat monster, stuffed iguana, and butt cheeks

AAA’s eight-week Lucha Capital tournament rolls on with its second season. Episode 5 featured a rat monster, stuffed iguana, Lady Shani breaking out a brutal submission, the best move of the tournament to date of a German suplex/musclebuster train, a main event clown party flashing butt cheeks.

36 luchadores are split into twelve teams of three. The matches will be three-way dances with the winner earning points for their team. Three men’s teams and two women’s teams advance to the semifinals, then only one luchador and one luchadora will be crowned Lucha Capital champ in the finale. The venue is Pinche Gringo BBQ restaurant in Mexico City. The Lucha Capital preview will get you caught up on the participants and teams. Also, check out the recaps for episode 1, episode 2, episode 3, and episode 4.

Episodes can be viewed live on AAA’s Facebook page airing at 10 p.m. ET on Wednesday nights. The participants for episode 5 (here) were:

  • La Parkita Negra vs Drago Kid vs Laredo Boy
  • Mamba vs Villano III Jr. vs Mr. Iguana
  • Hades vs La Hiedra vs Lady Shani
  • Carta Brava Jr. vs Flamita vs Hijo del Vikingo
  • Super Fly vs Taurus vs Psycho Clown

The regular crew of Vampiro and La Regia as hosts with Jose Manuel Guillen and Adrian Mendoza on Spanish commentary opened the show. Hijo del Tirantes was the referee.

La Parkita Negra vs Drago Kid vs Laredo Boy

La Parkita Negra entered with a rat monster.

This was a bonus match with minis. There were plenty of springboarding maneuvers. Top move was a corkscrew from Drago Kid.

Laredo Boy won the bout via super hurricanrana to Parkita Negra.

Laredo Boy defeated La Parkita Negra and Drago Kid.

Mamba vs Villano III Jr. vs Mr. Iguana

Highlights include a moonsault by Mr. Iguana to the outside, a tope con hilo by Villano III Jr., and a spear by Villano. For the finish, Villano climbed the corner. Iguana threw his stuffed iguana at Villano. The fake iguana is supposed to be alive, so it executed a Spanish Fly on Villano. Mr. Iguana cleaned it up with a crucifix pin slam to win.

Mr. Iguana defeated Mamba and Villano III Jr.

Hades vs La Hiedra vs Lady Shani

Referee Hijo del Tirantes was up to his old antics. After a Tower of Doom, Lady Shani pinned La Hiedra, but Tirantes did a super slow count. The action resumed. In the end, Shani and Hiedra had an entertaining back and forth with ring rolling and submissions. Shani earned the win with a unique standing stretch submission. It looked like a wicked surfboard variation.

Lady Shani defeated Hades and La Hiedra.

Carta Brava Jr. vs Flamita vs Hijo del Vikingo

This match was fire. It had moonsaults, Spanish Flies, springboarding galore, close call finishes, and an awesome German suplex train. Flamita had Hijo del Vikingo in a musclebuster position, then Carta Brava Jr. came up from behind to German suplex Flamita, who was still carrying Vikingo.

In the end, Vikingo pinned Flamita with a spinning kick, reverse hurricanrana, and 450 splash.

Hijo del Vikingo defeated Carta Brava Jr. and Flamita.

Super Fly vs Taurus vs Psycho Clown

After some rousing flying maneuvers to the outside, the rudos double teamed Psycho Clown. That partnership broke down early when it was time to pin Psycho. Psycho got the better of Super Fly and Taurus with a flying crossbody.

It wouldn’t be a clown party without some butt cheeks. Psycho pulled Super Fly’s pants down for a whipping with his strap.

Lucha Libre AAA

In the end, Psycho hit Taurus with a Mexican Destroyer then pinned Super Fly after a pop-up driver front slam.

Psycho Clown defeated Super Fly and Taurus.

Episode 5 of Lucha Capital’s second season was one of the better shows for this tournament. It was a wild night with a rat monster, an iguana toy, and butt cheeks. Lady Shani’s submission finisher and Carta Brava Jr.’s German suplex combo with Flamita’s musclebuster were the standout moments. The three-way with Hijo del Vikingo, Flamita, and Carta Brava Jr. was exciting with flashiness all around. It was the best match so far in this tournament. Either that or Aerostar vs Drago vs Villano III Jr. from episode 1.

As for the standings, top three male teams advance. It looks like Psycho Clown, Drago, & Dinastia are a lock for the semifinals with four points. Taurus, Willie Mack, & Rich Swann and Bengala, Puma King, & Flamita both have three points each. Octagon Jr., Aerostar, & Hijo del Vikingo have two points. The rest are out, unless AAA awards bonus points next week or changes the rules. I wouldn’t be surprised in either scenario. Vikingo is a star on the rise who would be a nice addition to the semifinals, but that would mean top four instead of top three teams to advance.

For the women, Faby Apache, Lady Shani, & Big Mami have three points, while the other teams have one. They are in the semis, and I’d expect Big Mami not to win next week against Vanilla and Lady Maravilla. The winner of that match would put their team above the other for a trip to semifinals. However, this is AAA, so it is not inconceivable that they screw up the mathematical details, Big Mami wins, and they decide to do the women’s final at the semifinal event.

Which match was your favorite from episode 5? Which luchador impressed the most?
