AAA Roundup: Full match video of Cain Velasquez’s lucha libre debut, TV taping tonight, more!

Welcome to the AAA Roundup. Let’s get caught up on news and lucha libre action from Conquista Total. There will be a TV taping tonight, and let’s check out past matches with Cain Velasquez, Cody Rhodes, MJF, Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, and the mask vs hair bout between Blue Demon Jr. and Dr. Wagner Jr. featured on Conquista Total.

It has been a slow news cycle lately for AAA, but it is about to pick up with Héroes Inmortales XIII on October 19. AAA will be putting on a TV taping for October 5 in Morelia, Michoacan.

  • Dr. Wagner Jr., Psycho Clown, & Pagano vs Blue Demon Jr., Rey Escorpion, & Chessman
  • Murder Clown, Aerostar, & Niño Hamburguesa vs Texano, Monster Clown, & a surprise luchador
  • Faby Apache, Pimpinela Escarlata, & a surprise luchador vs Poder del Norte
  • Lady Shani & Myzteziz Jr. vs La Hiedra & Latigo
  • TLC: Aramis & Toxin vs Ciclope & Miedo Extremo
  • Eclipse vs Iron Kid vs Mr. Iguana

That show should be streamed live on AAA’s Twitch channel (Spanish and maybe English).

In other show news, AAA’s Invading LA event on October 13 has been postponed to an unknown date in the future. Invading LA was supposed to feature another match for Cain Velasquez. With Cain making a surprise appearance on WWE’s Smackdown to confront Brock Lesnar, it doesn’t look like he’ll be performing when AAA eventually does their show in Los Angeles. Cain dabbling with WWE doesn’t appear to have caused any bad blood if he ever wants to return to AAA, since Dorian Roldan congratulated Cain and is proud of him.

Speaking of Cain, ESPN and UFC put out some cool footage showcasing his lucha libre adventure. ESPN produced a comic book style video (English and Spanish) of the build up to Cain’s Triplemania debut. The UFC had a behind the scenes video of Cain at Invading NY.

Full video of Cain’s debut of Triplemania XXVII has been uploaded to AAA’s YouTube channel. Watch it here to see what the hype is all about.

AAA put a three-part story arc on their YouTube channel to continue the Niño Hamburguesa, Lady Maravilla, and Big Mami love triangle. I’m not sure which show these were taped for since they were never aired on Conquista Total, but it took place before Triplemania. Part 1 saw Maravilla play Hamburguesa some more. Part 2 saw Hamburguesa and Mami in the park. Hamburguesa tried to explain that Maravilla was only a friend. Mami made him choose between Maravilla and her. Hamburguesa picked Mami even though he has a date with Maravilla. Part 3 saw Hamburguesa going to Taya for advice. Apparently, he got caught lying about not being with Maravilla. Taya advised a gameplan to win back Mami’s trust.

We’re going to rip through three episodes of Conquista Total. Two of those are Triplemania XXVII, which was already covered live. If you missed the Triplemania coverage back in August, get caught up with Cain Velasquez’s open workout, Blue Demon Jr.’s training montage, preview and predictions, live results, main event recap of Blue Demon Jr. versus Dr. Wagner Jr., Cain’s awesome debut, and all the rest from the show.

The most noteworthy matches to watch from these three episodes are Cody Rhodes & MJF debuting in AAA (here), Cain Velasquez’s lucha libre debut (here), and the epic Triplemania mask vs hair main event between Blue Demon Jr. and Dr. Wagner Jr. (here).

Conquista Total: Aguascalientes, Part 2

AAA returned with part 2 of the event from Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes for Conquista Total (here). It was the go-home show for Triplemania XXVII.

Tessa Blanchard, Chik Tormenta, & Dave the Clown defeated Taya, Faby Apache, & Niño Hamburguesa. For the finishing sequence, Faby hurricanrana’d referee Hijo del Tirantes out of the ring. I wouldn’t say Tirantes didn’t deserve it overall, but he didn’t deserve it at that particular moment. In the ring, Taya planted Tessa with a double chickenwing facebuster. Tirantes had to climb back in to start the count and tripped over the bottom rope. Tessa kicked out at two. Taya got in Tirantes’ face. That allowed Tessa the opportunity to attack with a superkick and a hammerlock DDT. Tirantes did the three count with blazing speed for the rudo victory.

Taurus & Daga defeated Cody Rhodes & MJF. Cody entered like a hand shaking, baby kissing politician. MJF gave the fans the middle finger behind Cody’s back. The first notable moment was MJF riding Taurus like a bull, being dumping out of the ring, and getting hit with a corkscrew plancha from Daga. Cody clotheslined Taurus out of the ring then did a flying plancha over the ropes where he was caught for the softest landing in the history of planchas.

Later, there was a funny moment of eye poke and nut kick exchanges between MJF and Daga.

For the finishing sequence, MJF tagged himself in when Cody had strong momentum. Taurus grabbed Cody’s foot to drag him out of the ring and tossed him into the crowd. Daga fought back against MJF, and Taurus clipped MJF’s knee. Daga hit a double underhook facebreaker to win. Texano and Rey Escorpion ran down to help beat up Cody and MJF after the match.

Laredo Kid, Aerostar, & Puma King defeated Averno, Chessman, & Eterno. For the finishing sequence, Laredo Kid took out Averno and Eterno with a springboard corkscrew moonsault to the outside. Aerostar followed with a tope con hilo. In the ring, Puma King nailed Chessman with a powerbomb then a sunset flip powerbomb to win. After the match, Monster Clown attacked the tecnicos and focused on Aerostar to continue their rivalry.

Conquista Total: Triplemania XXVII

Triplemania XXVII was split into two parts for Conquista Total.

Part 1 (here) has the following matches:

  • Trios Championship: Hijo del Vikingo, Myzteziz Jr., & Golden Magic vs Poder del Norte vs Pimpinela Escarlata, Maximo, & Mamba (video)
  • Copa Triplemania (video)
  • AAA (Pentagon, Fenix, & Laredo Kid) vs AEW (Young Bucks & Kenny Omega) (video)

Part 2 (here) has the following matches:

  • Mixed Tag Championship: Niño Hamburguesa & Big Mami vs Lady Maravilla & Villano III Jr. vs Sammy Guevara & Scarlett Bordeaux vs Australian Suicide & Vanilla Vargas (video)
  • Cain Velasquez, Cody Rhodes, & Psycho Clown vs Texano, Taurus, & Killer Kross (video)
  • Mask vs Hair: Blue Demon Jr. vs Dr. Wagner Jr. (video)

The Reina de Reinas TLC bout was the only main show match not to make the cut. Tessa Blanchard was victorious. Taya captured the gold at Invading NY, so I guess this bout is not relevant anymore. Tessa’s title reign lasted 43 days. That is very short for lucha libre standards. It goes down as the second shortest Reina de Reinas reign in history. Ayako Hamada held the belt for 33 days in 2017.

We’ll close with a couple of tales from Daga and Tessa Blanchard on the road.

What a wild and crazy couple. That’s a wrap for the AAA Roundup.
