AEW’s first show really did end with the Dynamite live crowd chanting “We the people”.
Scheduled for your basic six man tag team match between Chris Jericho, Ortiz and Santana versus Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson as the main event, AEW’s final 10 minutes of TNT airtime quickly went off the rails.
Jon Moxley wasted little time in his attack of Omega and immediately turned a three on three match into a three on two contest. Holding a numbers edge, Jericho’s team dispatched of The Young Bucks in an orderly fashion.
Post-match, Jericho, Ortiz and Santana began putting the boots to the Jackson brothers. Looking for some redemption from Jericho’s attack earlier in the night, Cody Rhodes ran down to try and save his friends.
Moments after Cody hit the ring, Sammy Guevara followed up and kicked his opponent in AEW’s first ever match on TNT straight in the balls. Not to be outdone, Cody’s older brother Dustin Rhodes ran down to the ring and kicked Guevara square in the nuts.
Then the WWE star formerly known as Jack Swagger, now billed as Bellator MMA fighter Jake Hager, hit the ring and crushed the Rhodes’ family hope of a comeback. Hager slammed and took out all four baby faces as the Dynamite live crowd lost their collective minds.
A huge pop for Hager returning to a wrestling ring in 2019?
What a time to be a pro wrestling fan.
As far as big reveals go, what do you think of AEW’s intro of Jake Hager? Do you have hope AEW will use him better than WWE did?
